I always loved Monopoly. I played it as a kid, and still play it today.

Who else still plays Monopoly? I love the game too. My kids and I still play it all the time. These days we play what we call "cut throat Monopoly", meaning that you have to be on your toes all the time while you are playing. Not a gentlemen's, touchy-feely, everyone help everyone else sort of game, but rather a fast moving, free wheeling, hard bargaining sort of game! This doesn't mean it is all grim concentration of course - we have a great time while playing, which is why we still do it after all these years.

My kids have just about every themed game of Monopoly ever made, but we come back to the original one time after time.

A GREAT game!

What is the life expectancy of these fish Netty? Maybe the place you are buying them is selling you "senior citizens"? No matter what, sounds like a bummer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_barb

I think their life expectancy is longer that 1 week. I bought them at Petco but I think it may have been something I did wrong. I'm taking my dead frozen fish and a water sample this week to get my money back.

I may just get a betta instead, they're not as needy.

With fresh water fish, I have found that you have to beware of the water temperature and the conditon of the water. Which is a lot of work. If you have tropical fish. If you have gold fish then, you don't have to work as hard.

The problem you may have it there is chlorine in the water, which will harm the fish.

Well, I had gone and bought some bottled water for the tank but maybe I missed something.

Hey, I'm thinking of getting my ipod touch engraved. What do you guys think about this quote:
"At the Touch of a lover everyone becomes a poet."

Netty, sorry to hear about the fish. I had that trouble all the time when I was a kid.

Well today is going much better for me. Yesterday turned out horrible. After my test all I wanted to do was to lay down at my girlfriend's house and watch a movie with her, but she cancelled as soon as I got home from class. Told me she accidentally promised someone else that she would do something that night. After that I realized I had forgotten to do an assignment for my class this morning. I spent 2 hours at the library getting it done and finally went to bed around 1am. Got up this morning for class and turns out we didn't have to do it, the date was wrong in the syllabus. Now I have it done and I got extra credit points.

I hope the rest of the day goes by smoothly. I'm done with everything by 4 o'clock. Then I get to come home and rest since I don't have any homework.

Evening everyone. I'm just hanging out right now. Glad tomorrow should be somewhat of an easy day. All I have is class in the morning and then work later on in the night.

Gosh, Netty, I'm really sorry about your fish!!

My dad's side of the family is always telling me that I'm too thin and I never eat. It gets on my nerves cause I know I do eat.
I know I'm way late on this conversation, but I totally know what you mean!!! I inherited my dad's high metabolism. People are constantly telling me I need to eat more when I eat plenty!!! :Shouting:

Hey Netty, sorry about your fish. Maybe I can help, I keep saltwater and fresh water fish. You should let a new tank sit for at least a week before you add fish to it. You can fill it up with plain tap water, add all the proper chemicals turn it on and just let it sit. Also your pump/filter should have a bio wheel attached. This is to let the proper amounts of bacteria build up for the fish to survive. There are refridgerated packs of bacteria that you can get at your local pet store to help this process along. After you let it sit for a week add a few fish at a time. Do not put the pet store water in your tank. It can contain harmful bacteria and diseases. Just put the bag in the water for an hour and let it sit. Then add small amounts of your tanks water every 30 minutes for another 2 hours. Then just dip the fish out and add them to your tank. If they survive for a week then it is safe to add more. Let me know if you need any more info, such as what products I use etc. Good luck!

Thanks for the great advice babarnette!! I'm going to try your suggestion. I didn't know there was so much prep for a fish tank. I don't believe my filter has a bio wheel, I'll look into that.

Thanks again!

Your welcome, depending on the size of your tank you can get a all in one pump/filter/bio wheel for about $25.00. They should have told you all this at the pet store. When I first got started I was lucky to have a great local pet store that set me up with everything I needed. You might try going to a small independent pet store instead of a big chain. Good Luck!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I found a small tropical fish store in my area. I went Sunday but it was closed. I'm going to try again this weekend. :)

Who else still plays Monopoly?

I would, but haven't played in years now.
Still don't know that many folks here in the Big D and none into gaming other than Hold-em.
Before we moved up here, it had been a number of years since anyone would play either Monopoly or Risk with me any longer. Guess I should have let someone else win a game or two during the last 4 or 5 years of our tournaments.
In let's say mid 50's now, and my siblings still will not play a game with me.
Actually with Risk, i had to give it up. Was still invited to the games, but everyone was tired of playing for 2nd place, so they all began making a pact at the beginning of the game, not to attack one another until I was gone. :Not-Amused:

Well thankfully my week is almost over. Yesterday was SUCH a long day and Monday was even worse. Right now I'm working on a little Physics homework and then I have to work tonight. I don't know what I'll do after work, probably just hang around. Tomorrow should be pretty easy, just two classes in the morning and work the rest of the day. I think I'll go back to my parents house for the weekend to relax.

ended in 7th - it was a bummer - had QQ, hit Q on the flop with 3 suits showing, went all in - was called by the chip leader who had J 10 - he hit a flush on the river

Although think that may be why I enjoy poker so much - there is almost always a bit of chance involved, no matter how good your play is
