Hey everyone, just letting you guys know I'll be really busy this week so I probably won't get a chance to post on MF for a while...too much school/work.

O...M...G!

The universitys facilitys are simply amazing! This might be a long post so regular members might want to pull up a seat and get yourselves a drink.

You walk through the first building, where you have the main reception and some teaching areas etc.
From there you have a cafe open all day 5 days a week. Upstairs from there is the student bar where drinks are very cheap (Avg pint comes in at just £1.30 ($2.60) compared to average pub prices of £2.80 a pint ($5.60)

Moving onto the department where i will be taught...

You walk in and are greated by the lecture room, nowt exciting there except your average lecture room.
Then... there is the studios :O

Studio 1 is a fully digital studio. The mixing room features a 18 channel digital mixer featuring 3 layer control. This is connected directly to a macpro G5. The recording booth is completly sound isolated seperated from the monitoring/mixing room by 6 layers of soundproofing/glass.

Studio 2 is very similar to studio 1 except it is mainly designed for 5.1 surround sound authoring.

Studio 3 features a mixing room more geared towards final mixes and production. It has a lot of synthesizes and outboard gear allowing you to create a complete mix to professinal studio standards. In this room we have another mac pro (intel) running on 2 apple cinema displays. During normal use the dual displays are used to span logic pros windows. When recording, you can utilise one of the screens to link up to the second recording booth which contains a webcam and a mic over facility. The front of this gear is based around a yamaha mixer (multi-layer) which is the same model they use in pro studios.

Forth and final studio is an analog setup (mainly) which uses a 32 channel mackie mixer connected to a HUGE setup of outboard rack units.
The recording booth for this studio features a nice large room perfect for recording rock drums in and other "Open" style instruments.

All of this is supported by top of the range mics etc. The university are also happy and infact ENCOURAGE use of your own macs (inc. laptops) in the studio so you can work on your projects at home. The network administrators fully support (and prefer ;)) macs and are more then happy to help setup software from home when they can help :)

Im in love :D

(btw if anyone is interested, just let me know and i can explain in more detail what equipment we are using etc, I surely cant be the only tech head on a mac forum :p)

It has been a GREAT two days. The Cubs won, the Bears won, I was able to buy some barley soda ;), AND I just won a Motorola Q in a drawing at work. I don't have Sprint, but I do have an eBay account. A new, unactivated Motorola Q can sell for $200 and up, so I'll have some more spending cash now.

"Woohoo" on the marketable prize, TC99!

Thanks. I've won A LOT of stuff at work. We always have contests going for cell phone sales, and I've sold many cell phones. So I've probably won about $100 in gas cards, a $50 Hooters gift card, a $50 debit card, a couple of $10 bonuses on my paychecks, some t-shirts, and now this. This is the first prize I've won where I can actually make some money on it.

I wish I could win some of the big prizes though. In the past few months I've had the chance to win an XBOX 360 and a 2007 Mustang, but no luck on those.

Here I sit, the lonely Desk Sergeant, with no one but Mac-Forums to keep me company. Sigh.

I've heard they are not very easy to use, but fashionable nonetheless. ;)

tendersurrender, you have a bar on campus?!?!?! that's awesome.

this semester is about 3 weeks in. i pulled a 100 on my math quiz i was all worried about so that was a pretty big deal. the lesson was mind numbing. it took all i had to stay focused. hopefully the rest of the day will be ok, but i'm sure my psyc classes will be boring. maybe by the 5th cup of coffee i'll actually stay awake.

i'm in class now. it's very boring. it's called aging, dying, and death. it's obscenely boring. the teacher is quite possibly one of the most ignorant, backwards, and traditional people i've ever encountered. i can't believe they let her teach a class.

My lovely Samsung a950 has a static problem (likely from me dropping it a few times in it's less than two year old life). So I'm trying to get a decent cell, probably on eBay, for less than $30. In a couple of months I'll be eligible for the New Every Two with Verizon, so I don't want to spend much.

Oh, and chiropractors rock! (went this morning)

http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=488614&postcount=61

I hope everyone is well! I will go through the forum postings tonight in some detail, but I'll probably miss something.

We had fun on our trip, and will post something of it in the coming days.

See you later!!!!!!!!

:(

Jeez, two days without a post in the Bar and Grill? That's gotta be some sort of record. I've been busy with homework and reading assignments so that's why I haven't posted here. I had three online assignments, one paper assignment, and a 20 page reading assignment last night. I was up until 1 AM finishing it all.

EDIT: Welcome back, mathogre!

Hi and Thanks mac57 and iKitten! Good to see you both!

iKitten, it's definitely worth seeing the Magic Kingdom, though it's *mostly* the same as what you can find in Disneyland in Anaheim. (Yes I've been there too, though the last time was in '95 as I recall.)
