nothing wrong with ramen.
if you can afford to go get yourself a few "extras" to keep on hand, all the better.
try adding any of the following in various quantities:
- garlic (actual garlic, powder or the little dried bits - just not garlic salt)
- left over wine throw a little in the pan first, cook off some of the alcohol, maybe throw in some of the next ingredient...)
- onions (flakes, real onion, but again, not onion salt)
- steak 'ums (cooked. or any other leftover meat)
- red pepper flakes (or cayanne pepper dust / chili powder)
- cumin (not too much or it will taste like watered down chili)
- black pepper
- butter (trust me, it makes a world of difference, and none of that fake butter nastiness - really does a job of helping deliver the other flavors and heat if you add any)
- olive oil (same as butter, just healthier and has a different flavor)
- tabasco or other hot sauce
- sugar (seriously, if you add some of the hot ingredients especially, add like a 1/4 tsp of sugar and it takes a bit of the edge off)
- lemon juice (just a smidge)
- veg (i like adding a bit of frozen broccoli with the noodles, if you make a lot of broccoli, it's probably better to cook separate, maybe even drain most of the ramen water before adding noodle to veg. should work similarly with other frozen/fresh veg with short cooking times - peas, cauliflower, spinach, lima beans, etc)
have fun.
