I just wanna thank everyone here for your help. I don't see why the post count is an issue

It not really an issue, but there seemed to be very little or few gains or fixes being made.

As you like that Mac, why not invest a few dollars for a brand new dive and install a brand new OS with your old username, and then copy back some of your old data. You could even go to a SSD if you wanted.

I'd even be inclined to just copy a lot of it to a separate volume partition, at least until things are working properly.

Ok! I'll look into trying those; money is not an issue to me if it means my system works properly and I can continue my work. I'm gonna miss the look and use of Mavericks, but a new OS may just be what's needed, and I've got the time to experiment a bit. The suggestions you made are great, and I'll work to getting a new drive to start. Thanks again! :)

You don't state what you do with your MBPro, but with such a statement you may really want to consider a nice new SSD instead of a new HDD as that Mac only came with a Standard Storage: 500 GB HDD and only 5400 RPM at that. If not a SSD I'd really suggest a WD Black 7200RPM HDD.

Also the total RAM configuration of Maximum RAM: 8 GB should seriously be installed if it isn't already.

The full specs for that Mac are here:
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/...-2.53-aluminum-17-mid-2010-unibody-specs.html
and he also has a page for suggested upgrades.

Good luck.
