How do i know if i have a Dual Layer DVDRW drive?

now this is the pioneer drive correct?
is there ANY way we can backup the firmware?

LOL, I laughed when I saw it.

As far as I know you can not extract the firmware that's already there. Its also not published by Apple so you cant get it back. And you can't get your optical drive back to the way it was.

On that note...

Everything works fine. I didn't even need patchburn because I am using Tiger 10.4.1 and its supported. Importing/Ripping to iTunes was great. Im now Ripping at 22.3 to 23.2x. Big improvement! Burning with Toast was fast as well. I now have more write speed options in my drop down menu.

I haven't tried burning in iTunes because for some reason I could never do it correctly. It would burn but not play on any devices but my Mac. Anyway, not the case.

These step by step dorections were easy to follow.

I get mine from the Philipinas. They are cheap as ****. All media.

I just tried to use iTunes to burn and.... It worked. So, no problems yet.

menace3054, Glad it worked out. Have you rebooted a few times and tested it out? menace3054 what OS are you running?

yea im running tiger 10.4.1, my computer is pratically the same as yours only i have some more ram and a larger hd.

Those are going to be my next upgrades. But Im probably going to get an external drive for my photography work and music.

How did the "Patchburn" instal go with yours? Did it say that there wasn't anything to patch?

i didnt use the patch burn, it said supported right off the bat. its sooo nice.. it burns a full 4.7gb dvd in 3 mins 23 seconds

BACKUP FIRMWARE!!!!

EDIT: i will try this soon now that i can backup firmware. If the backup does in fact work i will keep it for future reference, or if anyone else needs it.

This way, you can flash your drive, and if you need to return it to apple, flash it back. this is assuming your problem is NOT CDROM RELATED

I just burned a CD just as fast. Since you have more RAM them me Im sure your's was faster. I had to keep everything closed. Works great though. Faster then usual. I was happy as **** when I was done eating and my DVD copy was finished.

lol well if my mac gets messed up (and its really not my fault) i just voided my warranty didnt i? kinda figured if i could revert back theyd never know lol

if the drive gets screwed up, you just go out and buy a 100 replacement and call it a lesson learned. i dont think they would you that you screwed it up unless you tried getting them to actually fix the drive you broke flashing

just make sure you follow the directions perfectly, have all programs closed, nothing in the cd slot. make sure you have the latest os, all updates, permissions repaired, that way nothing can go wrong
