Here's a great kid software package. My daughter and I have played with TuxPaint since she was 4 or 5 under Linux. At 8, she still enjoys it. I'm *very* pleased it's been ported to OS X.

Be sure to get both the application AND the extra "rubber stamps".

Here's a sample of what we did together the other day. Enjoy!

FreeMind, mind mapping software:

I ran across it for doing some work, and am using it. Ostensibly it is a mind mapping package, and at that it works well. I'd never used one before, but with one little experiment it really can help organize thoughts. It crosses the Mac/Windows brain barrier quite well, sharing mind maps easily.

Geeky stuff: I found FreeMind in a search for free - and stable - fault tree analysis software. At present I'm less interested in the statistical computations in an FTA package; I can do those myself. I just want something I can use to analyze a system and something that won't trash my files as OpenFTA did (under WinXP). I need it to be flexible enough to not impede my flow of thoughts. While the typical FTA icons aren't available - given this isn't an FTA package - FreeMind can be easily manipulated to do all of the right things.
