Hello All,

My Finder is running at 99% when its open and I'm not sure why. The fan is going crazy and its getting quite annoying. haha. When I close the Finder window, the process stops and fan stops within seconds. I'm not doing anything CPU intensive at all. Finder is just open.

I removed all Shared Items, Servers, anything that connects to the internet or tries to mount anything from the side bar.

Right now, the side bar only shows my Hard Drive and my Locations, which is just home, Desktop, Applications, and Documents.

(Actually, as I was writing this, I removed ALL items from Side Bar and the Finder is still running at 99-100.4% -- according to iStat)

`top` shows this entry:
217+
19794 Finder 100.1 97:57.11 6/1 3/1 192+ 283+ 20M- 45M 46M+ 64M+ 2781M+ 19794 126 running 501 508866+ 376 47

and I run a `ps auxwwww` and get:
<USER> 19794 96.3 1.1 2846284 46092 ?? R 8:31PM 99:20.55 /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder

Oh BTW, I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.2 on a 13" Black MacBook, 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

Any help is much appreciated!! :D
Thanks!

Have you tried shutting it down completely and rebooting?

Yes and still the same.

I thought it was because of it calculating File Sizes, but I removed that as well and it still runs hot....

OK how about adding another User and logging out of current one then back into new one. Still doing it?

On this to add to Collin's suggestions Maybe repair permissions then log out and back in.
You just might need a clean-up of the HD

Cheers

Having waited in the wings, in respect of my esteemed colleagues, I'd suggest that this is a hardware problem. The OP makes no mention of having used Disk Utilities, so ....

Boot from the Install Disk 1 and, with First Aid, run a hardware check. If all returns are okay, then try TM's advice, followed by CB's suggestion.

Hey all,

Thanks for all your replies and sorry for the delay in mine.

I just tried creating a new user and Finder is running at about 80%, but not enough to turn the fan on.

I should have noted this too, I just bought a 500GB 7400RPM hard drive AND I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard about a few weeks ago.

Other than the 99% Finder issues, I just noticed that the fan turns on during my screen saver as well.

I think my Mac is all screwed up. My MacBook is getting old :(

I've had a failed RAM, my dvd-rom doesn't mount ISO's (it didnt mount Snow Leopard. I had to put it on USB on a friends Mac)...It's about 3 years old, and I've probably average at least 10 hours a day on it since I bought it.

Perhaps its time to upgrade to MacBook Pro..LOL

Thanks!
