Because it's not an Apple product. It is actually a third-party modified MacBook - I don't even think that Apple warranties it.

third party modified Macbook Pro...

Quick question:

Does anyone have specific info regarding how new Macbook releases have traditionally affected the prices of the older models? Have the prices of the outdated notebooks immediately shot down, or did they stay the same for a few months afterward?

Reason I ask is that I'll be buying a Macbook Pro (by mid-August at the latest) and am wondering if it would be worth it to wait, from a financial perspective. (I'm not one to buy the top-of-the-line gear... I'll likely be going with a 2.2Ghz C2D model.)

If I can potentially save $200+, then I might hold off. Otherwise, I'll just order it now.

I don't believe there is a strict rule that governs resale value for Mac models that are no longer being produced. It all comes down to what people are willing to pay.

Have you looked at Apple's refurbished models? They come with the same warranty as new, are fully reconditioned, and are usually substantially reduced.

Figured as much... was just wondering if anyone had had personal experience -- been in the market for awhile and payed attention the trend in prices.

Yeah, I've looked at the refurbished models. I might end up going that route.

While frustrating...I'm not going to let it bother me. While it would be nice to have the latest, newest and fastesd Mac around, you're never going to be able to keep up.

I'll stick with my year old MacBook Pro for now.

My first official post in this community! woot!.

Anyway, onto the topic at hand. I too am in the market. And as fate would have it, I was delayed my opportunity to purchase a MBP last sunday as my local BestBuy had sold out the previous day.

In anticipation I spent the remainder of sunday watching demos of my soon to be laptop. Checking out specs, pricing comparisons, those funny mac commercials. Which is when I stumbled upon the new macbook rumors, and the fact that wwdc was only a week away at the time I was browsing.

Thus far, I've not found one official word from news media or apple themselves, indicating that a new laptop is in the making. I've seen pages indicating a new iPhone, a new .Mac service and a new OSx.6 upgrade for intel use only. But no references from apple themselves as to there being a new macbook.

I have however, found sites that point out varying flaws in the pictures of the rumored "new macbooks". Which tend to lead me to believe they are doctored pictures from someone trying to be funny.

All that aside however. I'll get back on track. :)

I too am awaiting my laptop purchase until after the wwdc announcments surface. Bestbuy has my laptop in, but with only 4-5 days to go, its in my best interest to hold out just a bit longer to see if there is any confirmation behind the rumors.

IF nothing is announced, that MBP at bestbuy is mine!

I just thought if something that I don't see why they don't have it now, basically to put audio out on the DVI instead of just video.

MY knowledge on apple hardware is limited, having come from a mainly windows/PC background.

But assuming they are designed in roughly the same fashion. Wouldn't both the audio card and video card be completely seperate components?

Don't get your hopes up too high for a MBP upgrade/Re-Design at WWDC. If anything a whole new re-design would be announced at MacWorld SF 2009.

Hopes aren't up. Like I said, I almost bought the laptop last weekend but they were sold out.

Just waiting another 5 days is all.

Then you're never going to purchase anything. Apple is never going to stop updating. Even when/if there is a redesign, there is going to be an update to that less than a year after. It's always the case.

Well i Don't know how apple specifically sets up their hardware either, but my brother had a Dell laptop, and that had audio with the DVI out.
