I think the MacBook will always have integrated graphics

I know, I never doubted that. I just meant a better chip. I can deal with integrated graphics so long as I can get past the 20FPS mark in UT2004 on high.

Something on par with like, a Radeon X1600 would be perfect.

The 3rd Quarter of the year is July 1 - Sept 30.

So does this mean that it could be released anytime during this time period? And once they announce the new products in June, will they say when they are actually going to come out? I want to get a MBP, but I can wait until June, even July if I have to. But, I cannot wait until mid-August, September.

Speculation is just that. If I were you I would wait until the June convention and then buy based on what is released there. Usually you won't have to wait more then a month from the time they release the product to the time it ships and sometimes it's as little as 24 hours from release to shipment.

I know but, in this case, is there no chance for the 24 hour shipment? Because if it is 3Q then that means the term doesn't start until July 1st right? Well, how would shipment take place 24 hours later if the release is in early June? I think I am missing something.

So now the top end Macbook pro will go from $3000 to close to $4000, but at least the case will be bullet proof.

The MacBook Pro case is already metal; it's aluminum. Aluminum is pretty light weight.

Why would Apple put out a laptop with a case that cost $1000 more? Doesn't make any sense if they want to stay competitive in the market.

Actually aluminum may be lighter than plastic. They can use such a tiny amount of metal to make a case that it will weigh less because they have to use substantially more plastic to get the same strength out of it.

OK but after reading all 4 pages I am a little confused. I want a MBP I have 1 year left of school and I plan on buying one while I can use my discount like 300 or 400 bucks.

When is the redesign supposed to be released? What will be the key feature upgrades? When does Apple usually run good sales? I remember a while back you could get a free ipod or 250 bucks off or something like that.

There is a clearance sale for the old model when the new one is out. The iPod sale was probably to get rid of old model iPods nanos. Immediately after the new one was released, the promotion stopped.
The school discount is as cheap as you'll get.

I would think the metal case would add to the cost of of the computer.

It shouldnt, i mean its not like they are using NASA grade titanium or something lol, they are only using aluminum which is quite cheap. Also wont add to the weight cause like someone above me mentioned aluminum would be lighter than plastic. I just hope that if they do go aluminum on the macbooks (which is pretty inevitable) that they offer it in black.

Coming from someone who owns tons of Lian Li Black anodized aluminum PC cases, you really don't want black aluminum on a laptop. It shows scratches really bad. Maybe if it was some other alloy that was stronger, it would be a good idea.

that's kind of surprising since the current aluminum Macs are pretty resistant to scratches.
