OK, thanks for that - I must have misunderstood when I was talking to AT&T. Food for thought the next time our contract comes up for renewal.

My wife and I are on the family plan (we both have iPhones). I don't believe you would have to wait for a contract renewal to merge your plans... I'm pretty sure they said I had the option to do so when I first looked into it even though we both were in separate contracts at the time.

Thanks, but I forgot to mention that I has renewed by contract with Verizon after I had been erroneously told this by AT&T.

If this rumor is true, why would they skip over #2 (Sprint) and pick #3 (Verizon)? Perhaps it will be offered to all providers.

Looks like somebody needs a little refresher. Verizon is number 1, AT&T is number 2, and then it's a toss up between Sprint and T-Mobile for the 3 and 4 spots.

Sorry the list I was looking must have been old. It ranked them AT&T, Verizon and then Sprint.

omg i hope not, here in Tampa Verizon seems to have crappy reception, at lease were i live. (although their TV + Internet is unbeatable). My GF has verizon. Usually at my house she gets 2 to3 bars and my signal is 4-5. Its like this alot of places we go, although near downtown areas she does get full reception, but so dose everyone.

And Verizon's not waiting around. They have the new Samsung iPhone copy with Win Mobile on it. Looks like a really nice device.

It does look nice - too bad it's running Windows Mobile. Samsung would be wise to talk to Google about Android.

Apple taking the iPhone to Verizon would have no effect on the iPhone you just bought. Apple isn't going to put out an update that will automatically shut down all the iPhones on AT&T, not to mention it would be pretty stupid for Apple to drop AT&T altogether if the Verizon thing were to ever happen.
I know it wouldnt have any effect. But i sacrificed ALOT to get the iphone. I had to give my old plan (verizon) away, then reopen an At&t plan. Crappy thing is i only get about 1-2 bars in my apartment, but when i had verizon, ive had never experienced what a dropped call was like. Would really suck if i found out verizon came out with an iphone, because i am locked into at&t for 2 years. Thats if they dont come out with it within the 30 days testing period.

Don't worry, your two year contract will be up long before Apple ever brings the iPhone to Verizon

Unless things are changing at both Apple and Verizon I don't see it happening
if you think about it both want control over the product but it would be Apple
taking the hit with crippling and cost.

I doubt Apple will partner with Verizon as they would need to make a new phone with CDMA. If they did that, they might as well let Sprint in on the deal then, as they are both CDMA carriers.

That and they are both spending advertising dollars on marketing smartphones
to combat AT&T I-Phone sales.

a Verizon iPhone would have virtually every useful feature disabled so you'd have to buy the VZW version for $9.99 per month. I'm on Verizon now, and while the network is pretty good, their incessant nickel & diming and disabling features is incredibly annoying -- to the point I'll likely switch to AT&T in the next month.

The wireless race is heating up: AT&T acquired two companies in a week earlier this month, Verizon got the green light for its Alltel acquisition and T-Mobile launched the Android phone with Google. Let’s take a look at the recent performances of the major wireless carriers, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

On October 22, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), the leading carrier with annual revenue of $119 billion, reported third quarter results that were below analyst expectations. Revenue was up 4% to $31.3 billion driven by the growth in wireless revenues and wireline IP data revenues. Net income was $3.2 billion or $0.55 per share, up from $3.1 billion or $0.50 per share in Q307. Adjusted EPS was $0.67 versus the $0.71 consensus.
