And if you disable those two options, you won't get the notification any more.

True but it doesn’t fix the problem. When I got up this morning I opened it up and actually fixed my coffee and it still had no trackpad or keyboard, also no popups. I tried my usual tapping the keys, running my fingers over the trackpad, and touching the power button. No response so I held the power button until it shutdown. Once it restarted all was fine.

I just keep seeing the issue getting worse.

I have called Apple and after an exhaustive discussion they have ordered me a new MBP which is to be delivered July 2 - 7. I have a label to send the other one back. Hopefully the new one is better.

I know you're savvy about packing and sending returns back, but I'll remind you again about making sure you double pack and take photos of everything before handing it off to UPS or FedEx.

That seems like a very good practical advice to repeat again!!!

As for the replacement Mac, is anyone setting up a Lottery on the odds of it working or not working properly??? :Smirk:

Think positive, Patrick!

The replacement will work absolutely perfectly.

PS: If I were "Apple" I would have one of my technicians go through the replacement and make sure everything is working absolutely perfectly - especially the 'wake from sleep' part.

I always take pictures of the inside and out. I even take a picture of the system screen that shows the serial number before I wipe it back to new.

Wait! A lottery??? What is my cut???

You shouldn't have to put up with ANY "takes just a bit longer" to wake up crap. It's brand new, and does not function as intended. The smart tech genius that told you to turn off your MBP to prevent the issue should be smacked with the MBP imo. I hardly EVER turn off any of my Macs, and I can tell you my newest 2018 MBP 15" wakes up instantly, and when matched with my Apple watch, it wakes up and unlocks super fast. Happy you're getting a new replacement! Good luck!

So I am in the processing of reinstalling Catalina after erasing everything. What is weird is I had to do the reinstall on the Data segment(?) - not sure what to call it as it is not an actual partition. The Macintosh HD container had an error and Catalina would not install. So instead of taking the easy way out, I installed it on the Macintosh HD-Data container. I am not sure what the issue is and at this point I don't care, but I do want to check out what the 28GB is that is on the Macintosh-HD container. Hopefully that will happen.

Just FYI - I did try to erase the Apple SSD using the unhide feature and it would not erase it giving an error. Never could find what the error meant as the number did not produce any search information - imagine that!

So regardless how this wraps up it is going to FedEx today.

Apple support ordered a new 2020 that is due in by July 2-7. If it so much as hiccups I will take it as a sign that I need to send it back and wait for the new ARM MBP's to come out. I have been vacillating anyway as I do not want to spend all this money just to find out it will be obsolete in a couple of years.

It is a dilemma.

You're not the only one. Lots of folks including myself were debating the same thing. My 2017 iMac was going to be retired (to my granddaughter) and a new one ordered, however, now I've decided to wait on what the new ARM machines have to offer.

In your situation though, your new MBP should be usable for the next 4 to 5 years. By that time you may be ready for a new one anyway. :)

Ah, you know me so well! I have decided if this new one so much as blinks wrong it will go back and I will wait.

Well I got my new 2020 MBP i7/32gb/1TB yesterday. I went through all the new laptop setup stuff and everything was looking great. I decided to use my Carbon Copy Clone to put all my apps and stuff back on the new one.
And.... the problem was back - no keyboard or trackpad for a good 30-45 seconds and a lot of tapping the keys. I can't honestly say the problem was there when I did the new setup as I went right into CC.

BUT I have made a discovery. If I turn off my wireless internet, let it sleep then it will wake up with it's keyboard and trackpad working every time.

I went into discovery/tracking mode. I tried all kinds of settings changes - turned off IPv6 (found that suggestion on an Apple forum), turned off "wake for wifi" in power settings, no power naps either and well you name it, I tried it. Nothing worked until I shut off the laptop's wifi then close the lid and it woke up fine. So I am leaning toward an OS/driver glitch.

Searching this on the internet brings up the fact this has been an issue since the 2017's. Some have problems and others don't. I wish I knew what brand of wifi adapter was in my 2017 as it never had this issue.

I have decided since I know how to work around this I will keep it. I have been going crazy with just my iPad at home. Unless this thing develops other issues.... (I am praying the demons out of it as we speak!)

Currently doing a fresh install of Catalina. I will not install anything else and see if I have the problem. If not then I will slowly add back in my apps giving each one time to see if the problem comes back and who is the culprit.

Did you report your findings/discovery back to Apple Support yet? That may lead them to a solution.

Not yet. So far the clean install seems to have fixed the problem. If it continues to behave I will start installing apps one at a time and test. I will keep you informed.

Spoke too soon! If anything the problem is worse as the "Looking for Bluetooth keyboard" pops up and no keyboard or trackpad. But if I turn off WiFi before I sleep the computer there is no issues with the keyboard or trackpad.

If I shut it completely down with WiFi on, it has no issue. I believe it is an OS issue. I. can see in the console WiFi log report a bunch of lines right when it starts up that show this:

Fri Jul 3 15:07:14.997 <airportd[141]> ERROR: sharingd (909) is not entitled for com.apple.wifi.join_history, will not allow request
Fri Jul 3 15:07:15.105 <airportd[141]> ERROR: rapportd (813) is not entitled for com.apple.wifi.join_history, will not allow request

Those two lines alternate for several seconds then they are gone. I am betting that is when my keyboard and trackpad start working????

I will give Apple a call just to let them know. Hopefully in a future update it will get fixed.

Interesting development. Turning off the WiFi does fix the no keyboard/ trackpad issue when waking from sleep. I can let it sleep and open it and everything works.

Then I got to thinking. I know dangerous for me sometimes! :D. When I ran Carbon Copy Cloner it informed me I needed to go into system recovery and turn off the feature that prevents booting from an external source. So I did and now looking back that seems to be when all my issues started.

My theory is that when the external boot feature is turned off it causes a conflict which is coming from the T2 chip and thus freezing the keyboard and trackpad. Since I have turned the "boot from external not allowed" feature back on the issue is much better. When it wakes there may be a small delay but then everything works.

Brief update: I have turned off the T2 chip and things have improved significantly. I believe this is a software issue that is OS based. Hopefully they will fix it in an update.
