I'm curious, as a new Mac user, I would be interested in what everybody uses their macs for, and how that relates to what stage of life they're in.

I'll start:

I'm a high school student.

I use my Mac mostly for graphic design work with Adobe CS. I also use it for the basic word processing, internet searching, IMing, etc. I do some web design, but print is more fun.

ooh, good question.
I'm a college student.
Use this baby mostly for word processing and excel. Lots of internet research, music, and little games (but nothing big, mostly freeware junk). That's about it. I also use it to keep up with my friends who are located all about the us, now.

I just love exploring the internet, and all my personal stuff (my bank has an internet bill paying service that really makes things easy) and iTunes of course. All the things a computer should do for me my Mac does :alien:

Everything from simple stuff like Internet browsing, FTPing, Email, IRC, Chat, Telnet to Photoshop, Web Design, Video Editing & Ripping, Music Editing, Music listening, Image Editing, Document creation, Spreadsheets. There are other things too but can't think of them at the moment. I don't use the Mac for many games but the few I do play include Halo, Dungeon Seige. I play the demanding games on my AMD system. I use my Intel system for some video compression as its quite fast. Otherwise I do most real work and fun stuff on the Mac.

Everything but gaming. :)

I've turned my iMac into my everyday puter. It handles email/im, web browsing and documents.

I handle calendaring and contacts on the mac too. I use a PocketPC and sync it with the mac.

I've moved my photo collection into iPhoto.

I've recently acquired a canon optura xi to film my 18mo old daughter. So i'm using iMovie and iDVD now as well.

iTunes has been great and I've converted my iMac to the central music repository for my 3 story house. My office is in the basement. I've installed Airport Expresses on both the main floor and in the master suite, both of which are connected to my stereos in each location. So I stream either internet radio or AAC's to either of those locations, or play them on the iMac when I'm in the office.

I use my mac largely for word/excel/power point creation, TONS of internet research and general browsing, very basic website design/keepup, backing up my DVD collection, storing and playing my music collection, basic photo editing and chat. I really wish I knew more about graphc design and had more time to learn the programs for it (since I do already have a copy of the CS suite). Since I'm a Psyh major in college I've never had any time to take courses in computer aided graphic design, but I hope to some day and use my Mac for what it's really good for.

rs2sensen - I use The Missing Link to interface between the Pocket PC and Address Book and iCalendar. Contacts/Calendaring was my one concern when considering making the switch. Once I found The Missing Sync, I took the plunge and ordered my iMac. It's worked out very well.

andremal, what software do you use to sync?

bassplayrr, what kinda bass do you play? (lol, I play Bass Sax, but I imagine you prefer the guitar or string variety)

Yea, the creative suite is an awesome set of software, I can't wait to get CS2. It does take a while to learn, and even after a looong time of learning, you may still only know half the assorted program features. The possibilities are endless.

I've been playin around a lot with Garage Band recently too. To me it seems like the "Photoshop ELEMENTS" of the recording world, but it will tide me over until I get the Mac versions of the software I like.

Right on the nose. I have been playing the bass guitar since I was 12 (I'm just shy of 23 now). Playing the bass isn't really my biggest hobby at the moment, I just use this screen name because it is what I have been using since I was 12 and has become a bit of a tradition.

About GerageBand; I haven't have an opportunity to try it yet as I've only had my iMac for a couple of months, but I'm really looking foreword to plugging my bass and keyboard in and messing around.

yea, I'm looking forward to pluging my keyboard in too. If I figured it out correctly, I need to buy a midi interface though to plug her in. I've done direct recording from external mics (w/ alto, tenor, soprano, and bass saxes, as well as a clarinet and a trumpet) through an adapter and thats come out great, my PBs internal mic just can't give me the sound quality I like.

Anybody else use their mac at all for music?
