Excellent URL.

Look at my collection at the start of this thread.

So yes, I am very interested in anything about old Macs.

I took a look (your earlier post it's on page 3)...that's quite a collection of pre-2000 Macintosh's (with some newer models as well)!!!:)

I think that you out number my collection by a handful. I was looking thru the list of your Mac's...and I noticed no example of the "Centris" series...you gotta work on that!;) I happen to have a Centris 650 in my collection...bought this one new back in the day...and have had it ever since.

I also noticed that you have a Macintosh IIvx. I had one of those as well (bought it new...back in the early 90's...don't have one now). God that was one of the worst Macintosh computers I ever owned...what a dog. Even when it was in it's prime...it was still god awful slow!:(

But if I could get one now...I would add it to the collection.:)

I saw that you have a few "Performa" models as well. I was never that crazy about them. They always seemed to be positioned as the "el cheapo" Macintosh computer that always seemed to suffer from some sort of identity crisis...and always seemed to have hampered performance due to it's lower cost. Even though in most cases...a specific Performa model usually had it's "Macintosh" model equivalent.

But again...if I could come across a Performa model cheap..I would add it to the collection.

Nice collection you got there!:)

- Nick

p.s. I have some of the other models you have as well.

The Performa's I got because I found them CHEAP at thrift stores and wanted to mess with them. Never paid much for any of them and the IIVX was maybe $15 6 years ago. It's known on Low End Mac as a dog. :D

The Plus, SE, IISi (Sold that to a friend), Quadra 700, Quadra 605, 8100/80 and 100, 8500/120, 7600 that was converted to a G3 400 were my main old Macs I loved and used. The others were just ones I picked up cheap to mess with. Then finally I got a real G3, G4, ETC.

Reason no Centris is never ran into one at a decent price. Still want a G4 Cube also. That is a MUST! :D

I have a video with John Scully and Dave Limp introducing the new Centris line as well as the new Quadra 840. At the time I so wanted one of those! :D I have the Video on Tape somewhere!

It's an amazing machine, the 840av. Mine is a wonderful specimen, really. I just can't use it... no screen! It has the old wide Mac video port while I only have VGA screens and no adaptor :(

Yes...picking up old Mac's cheap at the thrift store seems to be the way to go. Sounds like at least a couple folks on Mac-Forums get theirs this way. Unfortunately...I have yet to find a Mac of any sort at the Thrift Stores I visit.:(

A G4 cube is pretty much on the top of my list as well...as my next older Mac to acquire.:)

All of mine are from childhood. Even the 512K. Somewhere at my parents' house could be another keyboard, since we had a Plus that got hit by lightning, as well as boot floppies all the way through System 6.0.8. I doubt they work anymore though :(

Nick, the best Thrift Store find was the 7600. I believe it said 132 on the front. It was mint and $25. I bought it and took it to the auto. Was with friends and while I was waiting for them to return something told me to take off the top. Wet ll it had a G3 400mhz Sonnet card!! That was worth $150 plus at the time I bought the 7600! What a steal and my first OSX Machine!

Jamie, what got hit by lightning? The power to the house? House? Phone Line? I take it the poor Plus was fried.

It was power. That was 1990, and we wouldn't own a modem for about another three years, but we did lose a cordless telephone, since the base was plugged into the power outlet.

As for the Plus, it was on a surge-strip, and it was back when such things were still quality items, and not just an AC-splitter. The electricity jumped the fuse after blowing it, then lept right through the surge strip and hit the Plus. The analog board blew and it arced to the logic board while it was running. I remember it blasting sparks out that singed the curtains nearby. It powered up once more after that, but the CRT was a wreck, the vertical hold on the analog board was blown, but it didn't ever power on again :(
