MacBook Pro 15". 2.4GHz. - 2GB RAM. - 60GB HD@7200 rpm.
I can't submit just one...

"Without You" by Harry Nilsson - LP Nilsson Schmilsson.

"Do They Know It's Christmas" - Band Aid.
(this song always tugs on my emotions year after year during the Christmas Holiday).

"Angel Standing By" (Jewel's version of the Jimi Hendrix classic).

"I'll Stand By You" - Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders)
(actually, this is more of a beautifully written song about sadness).

Speaking of beauty....

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon & Garfunkel
(it's a little sad, but what it is really is, is one of the most beautiful songs ever written).

And finally.....

"American Pie" - Don McLean
(if you understand the lyrics, then you know the "Greatest Song Ever Written" is about the saddest day in the history of modern music - Known as, "The Day The Music Died."

R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When youre sure youve had enough of this life, well hang on.
Dont let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. now its time to sing along.
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think youve had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. dont throw your hand. oh, no. dont throw your hand.
If you feel like youre alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If youre on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think youve had too much of this life to hang on.

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. and everybody hurts sometimes.
And everybody hurts sometimes. so, hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on. (repeat & fade)
(everybody hurts. you are not alone.)

"Do They Know It's Christmas" - Band Aid.

FEEED THE WOORRRRLLD!

DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME AAAAT ALL.

Sorry, I love that song.

I really wanted to add more than that one song, so, I'm going to do a list.

TOP FIVE TIME!

5.) Johnny Cash - Hurt.

His version just had the kind of raw emotion that Reznor's was lacking. Totally made it his own.

4.) Leftöver Crack - Ya Can't Go Home

A band of squatters singing about the not-so-great parts of the squatting lifestyle. Great driving song.

3.) Rock 'n' Roll Suicide - David Bowie

I spent a few weeks this past winter just hating life, every minute of it, I was miserable. This was one of those songs that just got ingrained in my head and would NOT go away.

2.) Queen - Somebody to Love

Just recently gave this song a solid listen, and MAN, does it ever tear me up. Freddie Mercury just sounds so pained. Rips me up.

1.) The Cure - Disintegration

8 minutes of me doing this: ;_;

Just picture that. Me, BAWWWWWing, for 8 minutes.

For no reason.

I just hear this song and I sob. And sob, and sob.

One of those weird triggers.

If "sad" can be extended to "poignant" or "melancholy", how about ...

'You Don't Bring Me Flowers' by Barbara Streisand & Neil Diamond
'Diary' by Bread
'And So It Goes' by Billy Joel
'Crying' by either Don McLean or Roy Orbison
'Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word' by Elton John

Enough already!

Blink 182- Adam's Song

I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed, to go on
You'll be sorry when I'm gone

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to all my friends
You'll never set foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
Please tell mom this is not her fault

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never conquered, rarely came
Tomorrow holds such better days
Days when I can still feel alive
When I can't wait to get outside
The world is wide, the time goes by
The tour is over, I'd survived
I can't wait till I get home
To pass the time in my room alone

"Oh macheadcase you went away, oh machead you went away
You started this thread
the other day
Oh machead you went away
Took my heart, when I found that you were gone
so I went and wrote this song
the saddest song in the world
oh machead, you went away"

This may seem a little odd, but Puff the Magic Dragon sung by Peter,Paul and Mary always tears me up. For me its a combination of things that tear me up, the fact that the little boy leaves the imaginary dragon because he "outgrew" imaginary friends, and also it reminds me of my early childhood. My mom and i were alone after divorced my dad.. I seem to remember listening to this song with her... it just sorta jerks the tears out of me....

For me two of the saddest songs I've heard are about a really sad subject. Wife/family physical abuse.

The first:

Ocean Drive
Lighthouse Family

Say its true, black and blue, I can share your situation
Been holding our emotions back, will only make us cry
If you go, I know, but you know, it aint so serious anyway
When the clouds arise well live on..

Ocean drive
Dont know why youre so blue
Suns gonna shine on everything you do
And the sky is so blue
Suns gonna shine on everything you do

He left you black and blue, without a word of explanation
And he took your love for granted and he left you high and dry
You know someday, when youll wonder what you see in him anyway
What that days arrives well live on..

Ocean drive
Dont know why youre so blue
Suns gonna shine on everything you do
And the sky is so blue
Suns gonna shine on everything you do

And the second:

Two Beds And A Coffee Machine
Savage Garden

(This is a really sad song)

And she takes another step
Slowly she opens the door
Check that he is sleeping
Pick up all the broken glass
And furniture on the floor
Been up half the night screaming
Now it's time to get away
Pack up the kids in the car
Another bruise to try and hide
Another alibi to write

Another ditch in the road You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Wonder how I ever made it through

And there are children to think of
Baby's asleep in the back seat
Wonder how they'll ever make it
Through this living nightmare
But the mind is an amazing thing
Full of candy dreams and new toys
And another cheap hotel
Two beds and a coffee machine
But there are groceries to buy
And she knows she'll have to go home

Another ditch in the road
You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Wonder how I ever made it through

Another bruise to try and hide
Another alibi to write
Another lonely highway in the black of night
But there is hope in the darkness
You know you´re going to make it

Another ditch in the road
You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Silent fortress built to last
Wonder how I ever made it

I hate to double post but this song pretty much describes dating for me. In fact Blink 182 seems to have a lot of depressing songs..

Blink -182 Story of Lonely Guy (sappy I know)
Push it out, fake a smile
Avert disaster, just in time
I need a drink, cause in a while
Worthless answer from friends of mine
It's dumb to ask, cool to ignore
Girls posess me, but they're never mine
I made my entrance, avoided hazards
Checked my engine, I fell behind

I fell behind

She makes me feel like it's raining outside
And when the storm's gone i'm all torn up inside
I'm always nervous on, days like this like the prom
I get too scared to move, cause i'm a *swear word*' boy

Remember when I was in the grocery store, now's my time
Lost the words, lost the nerve, lost the girl, left the line
I would wish upon a star, but that star, it doesn't shine
So read my book with a boring ending
A short story of a lonely guy

I fell behind

She makes me feel like it's raining outside
And when the storm's gone i'm all torn up inside
I'm always nervous on, days like this like the prom
I get too scared to move, cause i'm a *swear word*' boy

She makes me feel like it's raining outside
And when the storm's gone i'm all torn up inside
I'm always nervous on, days like this like the prom
I get too scared to move, cause i'm still just a stupid worthless boy

Mine is probably The show must go on by Queen. It's a song about Freddie Mercury dying of Aids.

Empty spaces - what are we living for?
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score..
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are looking for?

Another hero - another mindless crime.
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime.
Hold the line!
Does anybody want to take it anymore?
The Show must go on!
The Show must go on!
Inside my heart is breaking,
My make-up may be flaking,
But my smile, still, stays on!

Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance.
Another heartache - another failed romance.
On and on!
Does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess i'm learning
I must be warmer now..
I'll soon be turning round the corner now.
Outside the dawn is breaking,
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free!

The Show must go on!
The Show must go on! Yeah!
Ooh! Inside my heart is breaking!
My make-up may be flaking!
But my smile, still, stays on!
Yeah! oh oh oh

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die,
I can fly, my friends!

The Show must go on! Yeah!
The Show must go on!
I'll face it with a grin!
I'm never giving in!
On with the show!

I'll top the bill!
I'll overkill!
I have to find the will to carry on!
On with the,
On with the show!

The Show must go on.

The sadestsong I know is 'my name is Luca' from Suzanne Vega. It's about child abuse.

My name is Luca
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes, I think you've seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble
Some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was

I think it's cause I'm clumsy
I try not to talk to loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud
Only hit until you cry
After that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

Yes, I think I'm okay
Walked into the door again
If you asked just what I say and
It's not you business anyway
I guess I'd liked to be alone
With nothing broken, nothing wrong
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am

My name is Luca
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes, I think you've seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble
Some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was

And the only hit until you cry
After that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

Frankie and His Fingers-The Boy Who Cries During the Last Scene of GHOST Make Better Boyfriends Anyway...

This pen is my only friend today

Itll last until the ink has drained away

And the paper soaks up all my thoughts

So by now it probably knows my plot

To save this world

In my own pathetic way

And this heart,

Is blistering with hope

Its complimented by the lump inside my throat

And it overflows with so much love

Magnetized to its opposing pole

So it bursts right out

In patches on my coat

When does this end

This smile I pretend to have is fading

And I cant take another inch of it

Someone better take my hand before I quit

This young man is not a man at all

Just a little boy who grew up way too tall

And this big board game I play alone

Seems hopeless now with the rules unknown

But I still go on with the chances very small

Id look for love but its just like a phone call

I would not hang up but I cant speak words at all

But its breaking up

The signals gone

Please help me now

So I dont feel lost

When the markers of the trail have begun to fall

When does this end

This smile I pretend to have is fading

And I cant take another inch of it

Someone better take my hand before I quit

Quit now while your brain still functions

Quit now cause the failure comforts you

Quit now while your eyes still open

Quit now while your heart still has no clue

Quit now cause its just too easy

To throw out your dreams and just give in

Even the smallest risk is still a risk to take

Quit now and spare the chance to win

Good call on Street Spirit, OK Computer, but I'll 1-up that... Last Flowers by Radiohead on "In Rainbows".

Appliances have gone berserk
I cannot keep up
Treading on people's toes
Snot-nosed little punk

And I can't face the evening straight
You can offer me escape
Houses move and houses speak
If you take me then you'll get relief
relief, relief, relief, ...

And if I'm gonna talk
I just wanna talk
Please don't interrupt
Just sit back and listen

Cause I can't face the evening straight
And you can offer me escape
Houses move and houses speak
If you take me then you'll get relief
relief, relief, relief, relief...

It's too much
Too bright
Too powerful

Too much
Too bright
Too powerful

Too much
Too bright
Too powerful

Too much

Wow, you're right, jotdess. "The Show Must Go On" is a really sad song (although Freddie's vocals are amazing).

My list of sad songs are (in no particular order):

"You are so beautiful" - Joe Cocker
"What a wonderful world" - Louis Armstrong
"Welcome to my life" - Simple Plan
"Only the lonely" - Roy Orbison
"Summertime blues" - Eddie Cochran

The song "For Annie" by Petra

No one ever noticed Annie weeping
People all around, but she was alone
Mama's got her meeting and Daddy's got his job
But no one's got the time, Annie's on her own
No one ever knew her desperation
People couldn't hear her cry out silently
Locked inside the bathroom she
grabs a jar of pills
The medicine that cures becomes
the poison that kills
And it's too late for Annie
She's gone away for good
There's so much we could tell her
And now we wish we could
But it's to late, it's too late for Annie
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/DrCJ ]
Sadness fills the hearts of Annie's family
Daddy tries to comfort Mama uselessly
They hoped she knew they loved her
But they really didn't know
They just want to know
Why did their baby go?
If only we'd have known her situation
We'd have tried to stop this useless tragedy
Annie's lost forever, never to be found
But there are lots of others like her all around
And it's not too late for Annie
She could be next to you
Don't miss the chance to tell her
Before her life is through
We gotta tell her Jesus loves her
Tell her Jesus cares
Tell her He can free her
And her burdens bear
It's not too late

Soldiers Things by Tom Waits.

Davenports and kettle drums
And swallow tail coats
Table cloths and patent leather shoes
Bathing suits and bowling balls
And clarinets and rings
And all this radio really
Needs is a fuse
A tinker, a tailor
A soldier's things
His rifle, his boots full of rocks
And this one is for bravery
And this one is for me
And everything's a dollar
In this box

Cuff links and hub caps
Trophies and paperbacks
It's good transportation
But the brakes aren't so hot
Neck tie and boxing gloves
This jackknife is rusted
You can pound that dent out
On the hood
A tinker, a tailor
A soldier's things
His rifle, his boots full of rocks
Oh and this one is for bravery
And this one is for me
And everything's a dollar
In this box
