You can quote selected text in XenForo by highlighting the text you wish to use, then right click and then select reply from the small menu that will pop up.

This is even better than you describe, as soon as I have selected the text, I get a "Reply" button and it posts the selected text into a new message if clicked, just as it shows above. No right-click even needed.
