Also, its mad to see how much a magnetic hard drive bottlenecks such a fast system.

True true. I need to get moving on adding an SSD to mine soon - just still debating on which one I want.

I can tell you after the addition of a 90 GB SSD to my MBP, the machine SCREAMS. I have never had a computer boot up and work as fast.

That being said, the installation of an SSD in an iMac is much more difficult. If you are not experienced with taking the iMac apart, I would suggest you go to a professional.

Which one did you go with? I'm planning to put one in my MBP - and if all goes well - then probably in my iMac. No - I've never opened an iMac - but then I've never opened an MBP either :)

I think I am going to go with a Vertex II 60/128 (obviously, in the Windows machine, its the only bottleneck remaining.) i wanna see how 4.2 GHz scores compared to your Macs with a decent SSD inside. :D

LOL - dtravis will be so upset when the new rankings come out ;P What year is that iMac?
It's a 1999 model. I couldn't resist. I found that having Dropbox running in the background knocks your score down by about 6 points. This was consistent on both my newer iMac and the dinosaur from 1999. When I re-ran the test on my C2D iMac it scored 3474 and the G3 jumped from a 184 to a 191.

Other than that, nothing to be scared of with adding an SSD, other than a computer that is so fast it might scare you!

What SSD do you have? It's interesting that you only scored 2 points higher than the same system with a Momentus XT. Maybe Geekbench isn't weighted too heavily by HDD.

Have an update for my score. I had to return the refurb iMac I bought due to fan issues and light leaking from the screen, so I decided to stop messing around and just get a new one. :) Really wish it would have topped 8k though!

It seems I'm the first here with a 13 inch MBP...Potent little sucker, I just tested my old Asus UL30Vt next to it and it got only a 1706!
Wow, It's just a hairs breath from having the fastest dual core on here! Too bad it can't overclock....
