Anyways, I've thought since about 3rd grade when I first started learning how to spell, that English spellings were arbitrary and overly difficult, and learning them was not only extremely borning but a waste of time (must be why I never did well in spelling).

So little has changed in a year.....?

Words are spelled the way they are spelled and that's all there is to it. The vagaries of a language's orthography give depth to the language, and make it more interesting. Why has this thread gotten so off track?
