I have used both and love the hd-dvd players. I hope apple would go with both or hd-dvd. I have bought lots of hd-dvd movies so if it dies then I will be screwed. Even if hd-dvd uses some M$ stuff sony has basically all of the pats for blue ray. I am not sure but I think it would cost more in royalties (that is 100% a guess).

I'm glad Apple is with Blu-Ray, not HD-DVD. I, too, don't know a single person who uses HD-DVD, but I know several who use Blu-Ray. My dad even bought my brother a PS3 using the Blu-Ray player as a side benefit to con my mom into it. :)

When we had betamax and vhs, vhs won because the porn industry chose it.
The porn industry has chosen bluray now, I reckon even now it's being favoured over hd dvd, i haven't seen many hd dvd's in the shops and that it'll be the universal new standard whether it's a pc or a mac.

If you're the porn industry, which format would you choose?

HD DVD or "Blu" ray?;D

Actually the porn industry went with HD-DVD because disney muscled sony to not allow porn on the bluray. I find it irrelevant though because of the internet.

Apple is on the Blu-ray board. They will not be going with HD-DVD. It's not even a question.

Should Apple announce a Blu-ray drive at Macworld, consider this war over, and Christams '08 will be smothered in BR logos.

Toshiba's HD DVD is as good as dead, not even appearing at CES this year.

After the warner bombshell i'd say this battle is over, paramount is pulling titles off the shelf and universal is in talks with Blu again. I think steve will have an announcement this year, built in bluray drives anyone (just a guess so dont flame me ;)) ?

I heard that for an HDTV below the size of 42" it is physically impossible to deliver 1080p, only 1080i.

When I was shopping for a new TV just after Thanksgiving I was looking at 37's and 40's and all that I looked at were 1080p, including my 40" Sony Bravia.

Its not impossible to get it, its just nearly impossible to see the difference.

Oh my question is this?

Has anyone ever watched their VHS tape of anything and thought to themselves "hey if that little bit of blood or his face was that little bit more crisp and clearer I'd have a much better experience watching this movie"?

I haven't. And I don't think anyone I know from around my local area has. So for me I'm not into the hype of Blu Ray. Sure the quality is great but not worth the effort for me. But having a blu ray for a data dvd. Not that I am interested in. When they're cheap I'll so be getting a few of those. Blanks that is.

I'm glad BD is winning over HD-DVD. This is all the ammunition I'll need to convince the wife that a PS3 is a good investment.

Have you ever looked at a fuzzy eyechart and thought "hey, if I had a pair of eye glasses things might be a little crisper and clearer"? No, why would you want that? Did I mention lossless sound? Don't make me give you a hearing aid analogy.

I've had HD DVD for over a year and blu-ray for a month. They're both great formats. Just like I couldn't watch my old VHS tapes when DVDs came out, I can't watch standard DVDs now. I'm selling off most of my DVDs.

Like many people have already stated, Apple was always on board with blu-ray. No news in that area.

Let me clarify, BDA has nothing against porn however disney does not want sony to produce any porn titles at one of there factories that makes the discs. I suppose they don't want any foul ups where the little mermaid gets the debbie does dallas disc by accident, or by a disgruntled employee :) That would not help Disney's image. Is Sony the only company making the blue discs or are there other factories? I do know the equipment to make them is suppose to cost allot more than for HD-DVD.
