I looked for many learning and other videos on youtube. recently I have been having issues in viewing some...but only on my iPad gen 6.... I can view just fine of iPhone and MacBook. I turned off iPad and let it sit for a bit...turned on and some time later checked...
now funny, some I could see and others just showed a black screen or I got error messages...
see below

Have you been able to use videos from these sites before? I wonder if the videos are Flash-based

If you have the YouTube app on your iPad do the videos play there?

i think i just updated but will check. well it turns out looks like I still have 13.5.1 and 13.6 is the newest update. am updating that now. many times I do not like to update my devices right away until all bugs are ironed out.... hopefully this solves the problem.

now I have message in settings: red circle with "1" in centre....update apple settings...some account services require you to sign in.
how do I know which ones? pressing red circle does nothing. IMG_1522.PNG IMG_1522.PNG

Lori:

I installed two updates to YouTube last night. I don't particularly use YouTube but my wife is on it hours at a time. I've found that if the latest YouTube software is not installed, it sometimes will not play right or even work at all.

Just be careful that you don't accidentally subscribe to YouTube Music. ;)

I use my iPad everyday for several hours. I have never used the YouTube app, I prefer using YouTube without the app so that my desktop and iPad have the same look and feel.

I don't remember why I started using the app instead of Safari. In either case, the fact that Sue used to be able to view these videos in the recent past means that it's not a file format issue like I originally thought.

i just tested youtube out after my upgrade. i selected 1 art video...going to you tube via safari... it gave me only black screen. so I close that out and tried to access YouTube via the app and searched for the exact same video. It played just fine.

I just don't understand how some videos won't play via Safari but yet will play via the app. and As you say the app has a different look an access than with the familiar safari. I often send favourite links to a reading list on safari. That option is not available when you're using the YouTube app.

So you're still having problems viewing some YouTube videos using Safari.

When you get the black screen, does it always indicate "An error occurred..." message?

Hi Lori,

I had no problem viewing the above YouTube video on my iPad using Safari.

One option you might like to do is Erase All Content and Settings. Doing this would be same as if you just purchased the iPad and all data will be lost. So be sure to backup any pictures or other data if you have any on your iPad.

Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings

Assuming you will do this and the iPad is now default, don't install any apps. Just use Safari to view YouTube, Facebook and other websites.

i have done that erase before but only when selling device.
not very comfortable with doing that!
all my settings would need to be redone. and i cant remember what they all are!

is this the only option?

my ipad is synced with iphone so i would not need to backup pics & data!
right?

but why not install any others apps? or only until to see if this makes youtube work as it should?

culd i have a bug or something lingering in background?

funny... i clicked (using my ipad) on mac-forum site the link i sent you to view video and it came up readily. which i found odd. so logged out.

then i went back to safari, deleted bookmark for youtube, thinking that may help.
then in search bar, typed youtube...searched for video .... nope still same issue.

i will just have to change my ways and use youtube via the app!!!

culd i have this issue.... since im having these odd issues!

All that’s needed is for victims to click a malicious link to give attackers access to front and rear cameras (or just the front on a Mac), microphones, screensharing, and potentially other private information like plaintext passwords.
