Since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 it seems like it takes longer to boot up. I see the "working" bar on a gray screen for a little bit and then it starts to paint the home screen. Is that normal or is something going on?
Thanks

Yosemite now does a system check (essentially, fsck) on every startup. So yes, it takes a little longer. This can easily be ameliorated by following Apple's guidelines and generally putting the machine to sleep, rather than shutting down, unless you are going to be away from it for a prolonged period (which I've always personally interpreted as "more than a weekend" but is not specified).
