Just updated to Yosemite from Mavericks.

All went well at first then after a restart I got the message 'Installing on Mackintosh HD about 18 minutes to go'.

After a while the message changed to 'about 7 minutes to go'. That was about 90 minutes ago!

Research suggests that these estimates can be inaccurate but.....

I have got backups created but how long should I leave it?

Following reports on other sites I have rebooted my iMac and now I am back to the screen - 'Installing on Mackintosh HD about 18 minutes to go'.

I think I'll go and cut the grass and have a look later;-)

UPDATE

Before I could get the lawnmower out it installed ok!

Apple (and windows) is not known for it's accuracy in it's "Time Remaining" notifications.
I just let it run til it's finished.

I did read that it wasn't very accurate but when 7minutes = 3 hours and still nothing a reboot seemed the ideal way to wake it up!

....and it did so I now I'm finding my way round Yosemite and so far so good - everything seems to work.
