First, apologies if this has been covered before, but I could not find it. I have just upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks on my iMac, and notice that the few Jpegs that I have on my desktop do not display as thumbnails, just file name and jpeg. Can anyone tell me how to cure this?

right click on the item, select 'show view options', tweak it the way you want

I've seen this, particularly in the early betas of Yosemite. A restart will usually clear it up, along with a little maintenance. A "permanent" cure is to not store things on your desktop (as Apple recommends).

Thanks guys. A restart did the trick.
