I just downloaded Open Office 2.2 and installed it. It told me that I need to install X11 in order for it to work. well my OSX cd is broken so i could not get it from there. so I went to the xfree86 site and downloaded XDarwin. well XDarwin keeps shutting off after a min of running! i am not sure what is going on. Here is what my console.log is reporting.

Am not any where near savvy enough with Mac's nor Darwin to help there, but I changed to NeoOffice - based on Open Office but for the Mac and does not require X11

Am not a heavy user at home and use MS at work, so can't tell you of the differences between Neo & Open

NeoOffice - Aqua Native
OpenOffice - X11
Both - based on the same source code.
Really, with Neooffice being at 2.1 & matching OpenOffice, there is NO reason to use OpenOffice, in my opinion.

Yeah I agree with the other posts. Use NeoOffice. They're practically the same, except NeoOffice doesn't require X11 and it's prettier. :mac:

I swear by OpenOffice.org on my PC but on my iMac .... forget it.

Once, X11 became corrupt and needed a lot of intensive Terminal work which was way above my head.

No amount of reinstalling X11 from the install DVD or redownloading/installing Oo_O could fix my problem ... it was a totally unique situation that I couldn't find reference to anywhere on the internet.

But when I received help and entered all the right code into the Terminal, X11 suddenly stopped crashing ... but it was too late as I had already decided to ditch Oo_O for NeoOffice which has been fine so far.

I believe AbiWord is an even leaner word processor and also an OpenSource app.

Easy way is to just drag the icon to the trash bin. May leave some stuff behind.

Next easiest is to install AppDelete. This will create it's icon on the dock, then drag and drop OO onto AppDelete - it will look for the associated application files and folders and delete them also.
