I've got an emachine desktop that is in really good condition except for the CD/DVD drive.(It opens and closes on it's own and won't read any disc) other than that it works perfectly.

Not trying to be mean, just honest, but I do not think you will get very much of a mac laptop, if any for that. a NEW Emachines desktop sells for around 300-500 bucks.

Maybe if you offer some cash with it... maybe then.

Why is it that people on this forums feel all non-mac computers are garbage?

This computer is very fast and has a giant amount of HD space.

A clam shell maybe worth like $50 dollars and this computer is worth loads more.

I should at least be able to get a updated ibook.

a clamshell about 200 bucks, maybe he should try a PC forum????
Just a thought...

Then maybe you might buy his????

I dont think it's garbage, but no one in his right mind would trade a macbook for a E machine, hey maybe I am wrong, what is loads more??? and a broken drive??? I stick by my statement.

I own a PC and a Mac. I think your best bet is to sell the PC locally, craigslist, newspaper classifieds., etc. and with the money you gain go look for some deals on ebay. The new macbook's are driving prices down on used apple laptops so you could quite easily get a result. That being said you aren't going to get (m)any takers for the pc at this forum. Good luck with your searches; everyone's friendly here, I'm sure many want you to get what you need, you just won't get a great deal via the forum.

not trying to be rude, but this is mac-forums... a certain amount of bias is to be expected...

As for your trade its not a bad computer, but I agree your best bet is to sell it and use the cash for a laptop

First of all, lets all keep this civilized.

Ok, now, not all non-Mac machines are garbage. I just built a few machines for work (gaming rigs), and I will guarantee that they are not garbage. BUT 1) as was mentioned this is a Mac forums, so you will get a large bias, 2) Emachines are not known for making quality machines. They are (typically) lower end machines that are built with cheaper parts in order to pass the savings onto the customer. This alone is the oppisite of a Mac, which are (typically) built with better parts and are not low end machines, there are a lot of people here still running PowerPC's with no problems.

You MIGHT find someone here who is willing to trade you, but it is very doubtful, as most of us Mac-folk are very happy with our machines. I agree that it would likely behoove you to sell this on Craigslist or somewhere similar and then invest that money into a Mac.

As a side note, you would be rather surprised how well Mac's actually hold their values. I certainly was when I first started on the platform.

Good luck in your sale! :)

What are you trying to say airaddict?
Try a PC forum, thats what I am saying..then buy a macbook, it will not be cheap or a ibook if its in you budget.
Good luck with your sale.
Ebay might be a good choice as most people get caught up in a frenzy and pay more then a item is really worth.
When they still made them you could get a working refurb for 280.00 with a working DVD drive, heres the link xpdig.com- Tigerdirect: Refurb eMachines T6544 Desktop Computer w/ Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz 250GB Windows XP Media Center $280
