When I drag or "Insert->Picture->From file" a .jpg into a Word 2004 document, it shows up as a solid black rectangle, appears as a solid black rectangle when I Print Preview, and prints as a solid black rectangle.

The jpg is not, fyi, an image of a solid black rectangle.

Am I doing something wrong? How do I get a photo into a Word document in Word 2004? It was an easy drag and drop procedure in XP.

Sounds like a loose nut behind the keyboard.

Seriously though, I just followed the exact procedure you describe and it works just fine. Have you tried more than just one particular JPG? What happens in NeoOffice?

cwa -- It happens with all jpgs that are sent to me by my company. They open in Preview just fine, but they are black rectangles in Word. If I save them as png's in Preview and then convert the png back to a jpg it works fine. But it's a bloody annoyance.

And I don't care if you tried to help, I'm not giving you any rep so there!

Weird - I don't get it. The only difference I can think of off the top of my head is that I have all image file types set to view with CocoViewX instead of Preview. I may experiment with switching back to Preview and see if there's a difference.

EDIT: Nope, no difference. Have you tried dragging the image and dropping it on the document?

Not even for the "loose nut behind the keyboard" comment? I thought it was funny.... :D

I'd have repped ya, cwa! lol (TLG may just be a humor-snob.)

You "would have." I "didn't." Different tense.

Humor apparently not quite as dry as the air in Arizona. :ninja:

I know I'll lose, but you didn't because you wouldn't have if you could've. I "would've" because I would have if I could!

On the contrary, I read his post and before I knew it my little mouse cursor was darting for the rep button. That's when I remembered I couldn't, so I didn't!

*sigh* The best man won. Actually, the man won.

I find myself looking for the little checkmark all the time as I read and laugh!

I am having that same problem. When I insert a .jpg file, it turns the entire picture black. I have to convert my file to a .tiff and then I can use it. It is very annoying.
