i have a macbook from my company at work that i used for many years,

they have upgraded our computers at work, and have let us keep the old computers for our own personal use,

so the computer is now mine to keep,

the way the computer was setup at work, a lot of functions and features are locked by an admin password which i don't have,

so i need to wipe this computer and re-install the OS

my plan was to remove the HDD and hook it up to another computer to format/wipe it

then re-install it in the computer and re-install the OS

is this the easiest way to do it?

if so, how do i install the OS on the empty drive?

You may not be able to do anything with that computer if your employer used a firmware password lock to protect it. Most employers who use Macs lock them with a firmware password. That password is different from an Admin password.

You need to first find out how it is locked and then get back to us.
