I can't stand VLC. All my videos freeze up and look horrible. Is WMP any good? I see it on the top downloads. Is it easy to erase if I don't like it? I am very paranoid of windows. What do you guy's think? Thanks.

BTW. Can quick player pro plat .wmv files?

Personally I like MPlayer OSX 2 for playing WMV files - it's still technically a beta but it's been around a long time (2 years at least)
Failing that I'll use quicktime with the flip4mac plugin installed. Ever since M$ stopped development for WMP for Mac they teamed up with them. Here's the link on the microsoft page
I have WMP installed but never run it these days

That program is really really bad and lacking in support of formats compared to the current MPlayer build, which there is an OS X distribution of here. I would definitely upgrade and not look back at MPlayer OSX 2.

What's the difference between MPlayer and MPlayer OSX 2?

As far as I can tell,
MPlayer's website is here: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/
and MPlayer OSX 2's website is here: http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/

From what I gather, I'm guessing that MPlayer was made first on Linux, then a 2nd project deriving from MPlayer called MPlayer OSX 1 and later 2 came out on Mac OS X, and afterwards, a OS X version of the "real" MPlayer was released?

That sounds about correct, yes, though I'm not entirely sure myself since I really don't care about that other dead project. Mplayer OSX 2 hasn't been updated in years, whereas the MPlayer OSX distribution at http://www.mplayerhq.hu is an active project and is being updated all the time along with the actual source, with releases made at about the same times. A new release was just made a couple months ago in fact. And MPlayer is capable of so much more than it was years ago. Even if you can't wait for the next release of MPlayer on OS X, you can download the most recent source code and build from that.
