Will Apple Stores redo thermal paste?

I'll have to work on that. I just reread the thread and thought that I was pretty controlled in my first few responses.

I'm just looking for the experience of someone else having done this.

I don't understand your not understanding. I ask for purchasing and
service information, particularly from those with experience all the time.
People at work ask me for my opinions on vendors, assembler programming,
cars, houses and trading. I get questions on banks and brokers. Why?
Because one wants an informed opinion; not strictly what you get from
the broker.

Ok allow me to try and make this as clear as possible for you since you missed these points in earlier posts:

• Apple does not consider that there are any issues with thermal paste
• Because there are no official problems, it's not covered by warranty
• Because it's not covered by warranty, your local Apple store will most likely not replace it

So where does this leave us?

You need to call them. If they will replace it, it's a fluke of your local Apple store. Just because someone else may or may not have had it done doesn't mean your store will do the same thing since it's no an official issue.

So....call them.

We're only talking ten degrees C here. I have a Pentium 4 laptop that crashes after 20 minutes of use and that's not even at load.

I understand that experiences will vary from store to store. I also understand that businesses will generally be more willing to help you out if you will be sending them more business in the future. I owned a company many years ago (we did mostly minicomputer consulting but did some Apple consulting as well) and I certainly would provide freebies if I knew a contract was on the way.

Outside of that I could always just hand them a hundred or two to do it for me.

Of course that's what the personal touch is about and it's not something that you would prefer to do over the phone.

Obviously Apple doesn't consider it a problem as they're shipping these machines. I've had my share of hot laptops from other vendors as well. What I'd like to do is to see if I can make the current situation better. Perhaps I should go back to the other thread to see what people did.

The internet is anonymous to a certain degree but not completely so. In a forum, one can check posting history. In many cases, posters aren't anonymous.

I frequently get answers to information from anonymous sources and it's up to me to determine whether or not that information is useful.

I do a lot of engineering and trading work that the average person can't appreciate without some level of background. Perhaps this is just another
example of that.

They had this problem a few years ago and clearly they addressed it. That doesn't obligate them to fix it this time though.

Would the Apple Store fix a problem that Apple Inc doesn't consider a problem?
If someone wanted a thousand MBPs for their company and wanted a slight adjustement to spec, do you think that an Apple Store would do it for them? How about if you added a few hundred to the price per unit?

I believe there is some sort of communication barrier here. I don't think anyone understands what your issue is with your computer. re-applying thermal paste will not make your computer run cooler, unless there was to much applied originally. If, you feel that your computer is defective, people on this forum cannot fix that. You should really give Apple a call, and see what they tell you.

Agreed. I'm disgusted by the attitude being displayed here by mmoy. Asking a question and then rudely responding and displaying an completely, and mind you unearned, elitist attitude is just unnecessary.

And as such, this thread will be locked since I don't want anyone else trying to converse with someone who considers themselves so much smarter than the rabble here.
