If your router supports it.

Here's an explanation,

Hello - tell us which router you are using, I'm assuming an Apple AirPort Extreme (or Time Capsule) and the last version offered that supported 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) - I have the older model Extreme (802.11n) - these routers offer dual band transmission, i.e. broadcasting at both 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz (actually, 4 broadcasting bands w/ a Guest network added at both frequencies).

Typically, your device(s) using the Wi-Fi network will select the 'strongest' signal often 2.4 GHz which has a longer range that 5 GHz, but a slower speed - what are you trying to do and why do you want the higher frequency network? Dave :)

You *can* set up two networks in the router, I seem to recall, one for 2.4Ghz and the other for 5Ghz, with different names so you know which is which. Then you can log into the 5Ghz and NOT be in the other. That will work, but devices that cannot go into the 5GHz network won't see or be seen by the devices that are in the 5Ghz network.

Generally, it's better to let the device make the decision which is better.
