Does it tell you down to the square foot where the device is? Not for my devices.

It shows it within maybe 20 feet for me. Does Android and find my phone work any better? Not on my S4 or Note 8.

I agree. My vocal teacher has a lenovo and I've seen her use her hands to make things bigger and smaller and touch it like you would a phone, and it looks great to me. Frankly I'm used to using an iPhone and I'd like to do the same thing on a computer. I always ask why does apple make decisions for everybody. They don't ask me what I like. I do write them once in a while and actually they may have taken at least one of my suggestions in that the new iPhone iOS arranges my music folders into folders so I can visually see them which is what I like. On the other hand Apple has dismissed a lot in the last few years what those of us - especially in the older generation – would like visual as well as touch manner of doing things. They decided to take out the earphone plug but that's not what I want that's not a wave of the future as far as I'm concerned. I've lost a lot of faith an Apple in the last few years. I've been with applesauce 1984 and I think my voice should count for something. I have conversed with others in the Apple user group and other groups and I'm not the only one.

Randy, you know very well that an iPad is not the same as a computer. And there's no reason not to be able to have a touch screen on the computer. I really can't fathom why Apple doesn't want to do this. I find apple being very stubborn about things these days. It would be interesting for Apple to put out a Survey for all Apple users and then get a real idea what some of us would like to see you. After all Apple computers are still very expensive so for that cost we should have what we want and not all the smaller bells and whistles that I see coming out that I for one have no desire to have

Microsoft Surface is kicking our butts with touchscreen capability!

Not my butt. I don't want to be reaching out to do my work by touching the screen. I want my upper arms at my side and my hands comfortably on my keyboard and touchpad. It's not like I was standing up at a wall-mounted display giving a presentation.

Enjoy your touchscreen!

It's like they have lost touch with the society. They're stuck in this zone where mobile is so much important and forgot its roots. Shame on Apple

Randy, you know very well that an iPad is not the same as a computer.

Actually, I know extremely well that it is. You might want to try one, you might be very surprised at how powerful and practical they have become. Personally, even I'm shocked at how many folks in my user group now use an iPad way more than a Macintosh now. You can do just about anything that you do on a desktop computer on an iPad now, and you can do a number of things on an iPad that you wouldn't likely do on a Macintosh because of its portability. Have a look at the App Store. There are literally tens of thousands of applications. These are not bogus, they are the real thing.

By the way, all of those apps in the App Store...they've all been specifically designed to be used with a touch screen. The Microsoft Surface has a minuscule number of apps designed specifically for a touch screen. That's why iOS is for touch screens and MacOS is for Macs. Windows 10 is a kludge for touchscreens.

Touch screen technology won't be any good until we all have walls of screens, with a huge touch screen as your desk, just like in CSI Los Angeles hahaha that's the sort of touch screen I want.

This is a mute statement, because when has Apple EVER listened to what we want ? Never ...... Why ? Because we don't really know what we want, until Apple innovates and brings us something, new and amazing. They do what they do for a reason, and seeing it's a business, it's to make money, and looking at stocks, I think they are on the right track.

My my only gripe, is Mac Pro ?? Where is its update ??

Wow! What a thread! Now I know what "designed by a committee" really means. I'll stick with Apple. The alternative scares me to death.

@chscag You may snigger, but I'll have you know that the Note 7 is very popular in Canada for keeping your ear warm in the winter.

I don't believe that's a lame excuse. That's one of the reasons I don't like touchscreen computers. I very meticulous of a clean screen on my computer. @KevinJS hit the nail on the head for me to not get a touchscreen. ;)
Same here, hoping I never have to get a touchscreen computer. Hate the on screen smudges

I don't think that the sales figures for iPads compared to touchscreen Windows boxes would jive with your hyperbole. Nor would IBM, who is selling a ton of iPads to the enterprise, agree that iPads are "toys."

Apple partners with IBM to sell iPads and iPhones to the enterprise

I do very much agree with chscag's suggestion to you.

As the leading and most stable tablet, the ipad is very much a tool to a pilot.
ipads (especially the mini) have almost completely replaced paper charts in the aviation world.

You got that right!
I loathe touch screens! Even using a stylus, I'm constantly hitting the wrong key, or triggering a link when all I wanted to do is scroll down.
Or, my favorite, finding out what the weather in Cupertino is like when all I wanted to see is next week where I am. (Who, besides Apple, would be egotistical enough to include the weather at company headquarters on their phone?)
I put up with this on a phone, but NOT on any device I use for work!
What can I say? I still miss being able to turn off unused extensions in the old OS.

Apple, if you're listening, what I'd really like is the ability to sync my iPhone with the keyboard and monitor of my MacBook Pro. Is there an app for that?

Very interesting input. I had briefly heard that during a TV program the other day. I'm wondering if there is an aviation tool for inputting data to iOS so that it will be available for display on an iPad. Info such as the Jepson charts and so forth?

My my only gripe, is Mac Pro ?? Where is its update ??

We had a long discussion about this on another list. It appears that the Mac Pro might be dead.

The thing is that very few users or even small businesses need a server anymore. The stuff that servers used to be used for, such as e-mail, print spooling, fax, etc., are now unnecessary, or they are handled by the cloud. Sure, we still need file servers, but that job can be handled by even a Mac mini, or by a NAS unit, such as those from Synology.

The other thing that a Mac Pro is used for is by high-end professionals. But professionals are increasingly using cheaper white box computers, some running Linux.

In other words, there isn't enough of a market for a new Mac Pro. Don't be surprised if you never see another MacPro.

Why no touchscreen

Who wants Finger marks all over their screen? I'd have liked to see support for the Apple Pencil.

Completely agree, Kevin. Geekness for geekness sake is no help to anyone!

What seems to be going on in the OPs mind is a severe case of confirmation bias. He has decided that touchscreen is the only way to go and by dismissing the iPad he is free to concentrate his attack on the MBP.

So, ignoring for the moment how people actually use Mac mini, Mac Pro and iMac, the first consideration is the design of the MBP. There is a large touchpad right in front of the user's fingers. If you touch it, in various ways, your touches are translated to things happening on the screen. It's true. I've checked. ****, it's almost like Apple wrote an operating system around it. Next, you might want to grab hold of an iPhone or an iPad and run your fingers over the screen. Feel that? That's right. Glass. Gently touch the screen of your MBP. Plastic. Hmm. Feels to me like that could be easily scratched. Maybe Apple could change that out for a glass screen without adding weight or increasing the size? It would be easy, with only the entire retooling of the product line to consider.

OK. So we now have some advice for Apple on how to provide this missing feature. I guess developers aren't going to like this. Now we have one member of the Mac lineup using touchscreen, while the rest don't. Sorry, guys. You're going to have to write your apps based on two sets of hardware. No cheating and using iOS versions because iOS devices are toys, not computers. A bit of a revolt from the devs here leaves Apple scratching their heads. OK. So the devs won't do it. Well, we will have to go touchscreen for all the Macs.

iMac users. You'll have to redesign your desk. Your screen now needs to be on the front edge so that your fingers can reach it. Mac Mini user? No more running headless. And by the way, you need this particular monitor that costs twice what your Mini did. Mac Pro? One monitor in future, guys. Can't ask devs to write for your weird requirements. Who needs 4 screens, anyway?

You know? I just thought of a simpler idea. Why not just have Apple close the doors and let everyone buy a Dell running Windows 10? That's obviously where the market is. I wonder why Tim Cook didn't think of that?
