Microsoft Surface is kicking our butts with touchscreen capability! The Surface Studio is a game-changer in the 'creative' space.
Why does Apple dig its heals into the sand on touch???

Who wants Finger marks all over their screen? I'd have liked to see support for the Apple Pencil.

While all of the commercials you have seen on television recently may make it look like "Microsoft is kicking Apple's butt", the reality is that Apple is selling way more laptops than Microsoft is. And they are making a lot more money doing so while they are at it.

The Microsoft Surface, if you actually go play with one, isn't really like a laptop, it is more like an iPad, with a crappy keyboard to match. The Surface also has an operating system that is funky and on the schizophrenic side, in that it is trying to be an OS both for a touch-screen computer and for laptop computers. And it's not ideally suited for either purpose.

The MacOS isn't designed to be used with touch-screens. It is ideal for use with pointing devices. iOS is ideal for use with touchscreens. Much more so than Windows 10.

If you want an Apple equivalent of a Microsoft Surface, get an iPad (or an iPad Pro) with an accessory keyboard. You'll even get a more advanced RISC processor in the bargain.

@KevinJS, That's a lame excuse. Finger marks are only an issue if you're either a) suffering from sunshine glare, or b) your fingers are covered with peanut butter -or- dirt.

Honestly, any serious artist wouldn't worry about the finger marks - the screen will easily wipe clean with any cloth.

@Randy B. Singer, granted, Apple is selling way more laptops than Microsoft. However... Microsoft isn't the only one taking advantage of the touchscreen. HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and many others have validated the myriad advantages to having a Productive touchscreen tool to get the job done. All totaled, the touchscreen PC is WAY greater than anything we can deliver with the MacBook.
Also, the iPad is really a toy, with little more than consumables and basic 'wanna-be' tools to keep it relevant. Prediction... iPads will soon become glorified e-Readers, falling into the same category as the Kindle.

So, why then are you here? Trolling? Go buy a Surface Pro if you're so infatuated with it. Keep in mind that this is Mac forum. ;D

I don't think that the sales figures for iPads compared to touchscreen Windows boxes would jive with your hyperbole. Nor would IBM, who is selling a ton of iPads to the enterprise, agree that iPads are "toys."

Apple partners with IBM to sell iPads and iPhones to the enterprise

I do very much agree with chscag's suggestion to you.

As someone who has owned surface products, they are exactly as Randy describes. Half baked solutions to problems no one asked. Mine were not that bad on windows 8, but once windows 10 came to be installed on them...forcefully I might add, they turned into turds. They lost their touch interface that was really good in windows 8, they lost their stability, their speed, and their usefulness as either a tablet or a "laptop". Touchscreen is NOT a be all end all thing for a notebook. I hardly touched the screen on my surface pro 3 while using it as a laptop. I always used the trackpad and super chinsy keyboard junk. Apple will be just fine without all the "Microsoft innovations"....They are crap!

If you have seen the onslaught of commercials on television for the Surface, you likely have seen the one running currently showing a couple of folks who created a CGI movie with a Mexican Day Of The Dead theme.

The last time I saw that commercial, my son, who is an expert in computer animation, was sitting right next to me. I asked him if a Surface was powerful enough for CGI. He said "**** no!" But even more interesting was that he said that the animated movie that they were talking about ( the commercial made it look like they created it on a Surface) was created before the Surface even existed!

This is not honest advertising.

If you admit this fact. Then how can your statement in post #1 be correct...that "Microsoft Surface is kicking our butts."...??

Randy, After being in the Microsoft camp for 20 plus years, NOTHING in the past 3 years since Satya Nadella took power is HONEST. The whole windows 10 thing is a sham to get peoples data for profit. More so than google.

Just one of many reasons. I also had an HP touchsmart 520, and after the first day of novelty, the touchscreen deal wore off and I never used it.

Then what are you going to do with the keyboard? Tablet is perfect for it.

Everything I do now. I could see the Pencil being useful for drawing applications in combination with the trackpad, not the screen. For all else there is iPad Pro.

You can use Find My IPad from one of your Macs. It should retain the last known location, even if the battery died.

Does it tell you down to the square foot where the device is? Not for my devices.

Methinks we caught a troll.

It's your money spend how you want. You may even come to enjoy Windows OS X. Sorry Windows 10.

No, but it gives you an idea and might jog the memory. ;)

Apple is frustrating me after revealing their MBP especially after no talks to release an upgrade for the Mac Pro... Apple is so archaic and has taken a step backward regarding its PC hardware for professionals. When you have 6/8 core processors (socket 2011-3) that are currently out now and Apple still has the audacity to sell its dinky zeon systems at full price which cant compare when it comes to power, it's all the more reason why 'Pros' should ditch Apple's trashcan paperweight of a machine and settle with a custom configured workstation instead. I remember when it was (an unwritten) standard for all the professionals to 'get an Apple' b/c their line of work had to deal w/ some intense multi-media production (music, film, graphics). Nowadays all of Apple's focus is limited on pricey flimsy gimmicky phones and tablets. Apple's just a mere shell of its former self when it comes to their current PC line up. It's sad
