I think I would direct that question to Apple itself. We're a Mac enthusiast forum, but we have no ties to Apple. So, the answer is - your guess is as good as ours ;)

Check any forum, and over 80% of the answers are along the lines of "I prefer Matte anyday"

1. That's a made-up stat right there.

2. It's rather clear that if the majority of people buying laptops preferred matte, Apple's offerings would be a huge flop (as would all Windows laptops, which are glossy).

I'm not commenting on which one is "better," but let's stop pretending that mean old Apple is defying the public's desires. Winning a poll in a nerd forum is hardly representative of the real-world marketplace.

3. Matte is more expensive. At the consumer and low-end pro level, Apple apparently doesn't feel its worth offering the option. Third-party solutions are available if you want them (about $200 IIRC).

4. Matte screens, by virtue of not having a protective shield on them, tend to sustain more damage.

5. Only pros care about this stuff, and REAL pros carry big laptops. :)

I am anxiously waiting to buy a mac once they come out with a matte option.

Good luck!

I prefer glossy, and Apple's glossy displays are way better than any of their competition's. At least if the MacBook's display reflects something, it gives a true image... all of the other PC makers screens give off this distorted image, where you can tell the screen covering isn't completely smooth. It's bogus.

That will change on March 16th when the new MBP are revised and released! Finally they will offer a matte screen option to the MBP 13" (not the Macbook 13" though) I just found out from my grandpa who works at corporate

Wow. Way to sell your grandpa out ! You'd better watch his back now that the Apple Gestapo will be after him for telling you insider info !

Not even sure if I'm kidding. O:)

Yep, doubt that 80%. I'm one of those that is pretty vehement about no glossy display on any screen I have to llok at in my house. And I can tell you based on this forum over the last few years, I'm definitely in the monority. Apparently most folks are not bothered by the need to be able to peer past their own reflection in order to see the screen. :)

Jdizzle is full of shizzle.

If his Gramps worked for Apple, he wouldn't tell his little grandchild details that could get him in trouble.

Trolling troll is trolling.
