Why is my iPhone hotspot password not recognised?

2 iMacsOSX13.6.4;10.13.6;iPhone SE2 17.3.1;SE1 15.8;iPadMini15.8;iPadAir 2 15.8
When I try to connect my iPad to my iPhone’s hotspot a password is requested. I have copied the password (Apple generated?) from my iPhone it isn’t recognised. I don’t remember having this problem with my previous iPad.

Just a long shot guess here, but if you are attempting to copy and paste and it doesn't work, maybe try typing in the password using the keyboard, rather than using the Paste method.
