Why does the Recents folder not list a file I just downloaded?

I'm finding that the Recents folder does not list all files downloaded/created in the last few days. Is there a way to insure that it accurately lists all recent files?

What value (number of recents) do you have your Recents set to?

It is set to 10. As I understand it, this is the number of recents items that appears on the File Open Recents menu item within an app.
My question is about the Recents folder, accessed from the sidebar of a Finder window. If I've got this wrong, please explain. Thanks!

I usually keep the sidebar recents folder invisible since it lists all file actions that you have done. (mine goes back to Jan 1 of this year) That folder is different from the "recents" value listed in System Preference.

The sidebar recents folder does not include downloads.

If you click the gear icon in the Recents folder menubar, you will have access to the different criteria.

It does not include downloads. The best way to keep track of downloads is with your browser. Both Chrome and Safari keep a list of downloads that can be viewed. (as long as you don't erase them)

Why don't you create a Smart folder for what you need, and not display the Recents folder?
