It doesn't have to be 12" (or 13" or 11" or any other size in particular.)

But under 5 pounds is a must. Every other laptop vendor offers one.

Not so sure about 12in, but something smaller than 15.4 would be nice. That is about the only thing that would make me consider buying a new MBP.

13.3" seems to be the sweet spot when it comes to portable laptops. It just seems as though that extra inch makes a big difference. I've tried 12" laptops and they seem to be just too small to be useful.

i wouldnt go under 15", even though its heavier and more expensive, i'd would rather spend it than save on screen space.

All good points. I always had a sweet spot for the 12 inch powerbook.

I would be typing on a 12" MBP right now, if they made one. If you regularly haul your machine around, as I do, you learn to live with the trade-offs in screen real estate. Honestly, my last two notebooks have been 12" or smaller and after a few days, I barely noticed it. But when I switched to the 15.4", it was like going from a small sports car to an SUV. Everything seems huge.

I should also mention that I use an external monitor with mine. So I have a 12" notebook on the plane, and a 17" notebook at my desk.

I was considering the 12" panasonic toughbook before a friend suggested a macbook. I was looking for something small and silver. The current MBPs are just too big for me!

i carry my MBP every day around campus.

not a thorn in my side. sure my macbook was smaller, and 1/2lb lighter, but so what, my mbp offers me a few more things i like!

Eh, I wouldn't wait it so I voted no but I guess I could see some reasoning for it. They did have 12" Powerbooks before, right?
