Apple never announced an official release date IIRC. My original thought was that it would drop in mid or late October. That's pure conjecture on my part though.

As the old Apple Mac saying goes... isn't it Tuesday? Or is that Wednesday or...???

Yup. Tuesday. ...

Well the last full day I guess, but it's still here until just before Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 3:03 PM PST or Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 23:03 UTC.

I hope those who are booking some of the Stonehenge celebrations aren't too disappointed when they attend it on the planned date of 22nd December to watch the solstice sunrise. Hmmm...??? :D

But I think Apple's OS X Yosemite release will just make it under the wire.

Since this thread was a question on when it's coming out I will post this here!

OS X Yosemite Golden Master 1.0 & Public Beta 4 Released | OSXDaily

The GM was released to the Devs today and Beta 4 to the Beta testers! GM is usually the final shipping version of the OS, so Yosemite should be out very soon!

Beta 4 is downloading on my iMac as I type this.

That GM release is a candidate and not a final GM. That said, if they are at release candidate stage, the final GM could come anytime now.

For those confused with the terminology, GM stands for "gold master" which is the fancy name for final version. As a release candidate, Apple is effectively saying "we think this is good enough for the general public as a final version. Please test it and if all goes well, this is the final version for everyone."

Yes, know Gold Master very well. Been in many programs over the years testing OS's and other software. It should be soon now.

Bugs in Beta 3 were for me not an issue. Just a few apps which are the dev for those apps responsibility to update.

Are you doing the Dev or Beta builds Van?

I was. I had it installed back during the early dev builds. It was still flaky enough that I abandoned it. I might give the GM RC a go though to see how it's coming along. How've the public builds been for you?

Like I said Beta 3 was quite stable and just a few apps that would not run like Yahoo Messenger. That is a Yahoo thing! :D grin

Where I now live internet is SO SLOW the Beta 4 update is still downloading! Hurry up! :D Grin

I am pleased to report that Public Beta 4 has finally allowed iMovie to launch. That was by far the largest bug I had reported. The whole thing is really coming together nicely, but I need to give B4 a good workout now and send in my final reports.

I love this part Dennis:

The Retina iMac is rumored to have a screen resolution somewhere between 4096×2304 pixels and 6400×3600 pixels, and would be the first desktop Mac with an ultra high resolution retina display.

Do you know how small the characters will be on a 27" display that's 4096 x 2304 pixels? Too small for anyone over 50! Yikes, I can't even imagine what 6400 x 3600 would look like?

Of course if the new iMac has a 52" display....... :$:$:$

:D Grin. You can borrow my 4.5X Magnifiers! May need that for even the smaller number! :D

So many people don't realize that when the res goes up, the icons and text get smaller!

I guess we will soon know what Apple will release! :D

BTW,I do know some over 50 year olds with eyesight like a kid. Amazing but I am NOT in that group!

Yikes!! I can't imagine that high of a resolution. As a 70+ senior I already need and use 3x reading glasses and my late 2011 27" iMac is set at 2560 x 1440.

Are they going to have different resolutions for text etc?? Otherwise I'd have to add my 4.5X Magnifiers on top of my reading glasses!! :D

Those resolutions make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Nothing is going to look good at the resolution and if anything ever does, it'll be slow coming. I'm going to put this is the "let's hope it's nothing more than a rumour."
