What is the difference?

Top results give you your download & upload speeds (Ping value as well). The bottom one gives you the "ping". Which is the amount of time it takes your computer to "talk" with the server.

"Jitter" is a bit more complex & might take a lot of typing! Jitter may also be more info than you want). But if you want to read up on it…here you go!:

............below is the current testing of my laptop - my DL speed is nearly 25 Mbps (I'm paying for 20 Mbps); UL speeds are typically much lower (mine have always been by about a factor of 10 using Time-Warner as my ISP); also the server used is Greensboro, NC (not shown on my screen capture, but only about a 40 minute drive for me). SO - give this site a test and post your results. Dave

Well, my local T-W ISP has new internet offerings since my last posting above in early April (old speeds on my MBPro wireless in the den) - I'm now on their least expensive plan w/o a price increase, i.e. Extreme - now my DL speed is twice as fast on the laptop (and UL speed 5x or so) - my ethernet cabled iMac next to the modem/router is getting even a faster DL speed - would cost me $10 more/month (i.e. $35 to $45/month) to jump to 100 Mbps DL - just streaming movies, TV shows, and music - have had some buffering issues in the past, so will see if the DL speed increase helps? Are the new results for the MBP from your den as well? And is your den pretty far from the router (weaker signal).

Your iMac @ 87Mbps is certainly exceeding what you're paying for (50Mbps)!

Hi Nick - not sure 'how' to explain the difference - on my old plan I would get about 24 Mbps on both computers - redid the iMac and got about 90 Mbps - now I have the Wi-Fi & Bluetooth ON for the iMac (so I can do AirDrop) - just turned off the Wi-Fi and got the same DL/UL speeds - I'm assuming that the cabled iMac defaults to testing the speed via the ethernet cable?

The MBPro was in the den (one wall in-between), so took the laptop to the router's room and got 84 Mbps - NOW, I'll have to check w/ T-W is make sure I'm on the cheaper plan and not the 100 Mbps one? Thanks for the questions - I was wondering also. Dave

Either your den is really far from the router (signal loss due to distance)…the wall between the router room & den is seriously blocking the WiFi signal…or both (long distance & wall).

Yes…I agree. Definitely check with Time-Warner to make sure you're on the correct plan you chose (50Mbps plan). 80+Mbps on a 50Mbps plan is pretty awesome. Of course…if Time Warner confirms you have the 50Mbps plan…DON'T tell them you're getting 80Mbps!!! Unless this would cause you to lose sleep at night!!!

Wi-Fi only option on the MBPro (although I do have a USB-Ethernet adapter) - the router is in the next room probably about 50-60 feet away - the one wall is stud/insulation, plaster board on one side and wood paneling in the den - the paneling is at least 3/4", so likely does weaken my signal - image below using one of my Wi-Fi apps shows about 65% signal strength in the den (shoots up to 90+% when I take the laptop into the router room), so I've always assumed that it was wood wall?

NOPE - doesn't bother me at all, unless I'm being charged for the other plan, but in my T-W account, I am listed as having their 'Extreme' plan and my bill is about the same as before this upgrade in speed - probably won't even give them a call - Dave
