OK folks true to my word I have abandoned my third party email client for a month to test Mail one more time.
Some may think I have been over critical of this native app and the arguement seems to be stacked against me.
I admit my observations have been based on versions prior to 8.2 so to be fair I have loaded it up with all my accounts, duplicated where possible all preferences and options and any scripted actions.
So I will see how it goes and update this thread accordingly.

Works perfectly Rod but then again I ALWAYS do a format and install for each new operating system and use POP settings.

OK so day one.
I attempt to send a reply to an email received via my imap gmail account this morning
I get the dialogue box below. I had previously entered a two step verification code for gmail on the Mac but thought I would update it after mail preferences would not allow me to login and the account went offline.

After entering the newly generated password I tried to send the original reply but again got the unable to send using the google server although the account was now online and my new password had been accepted. I restarted mail tried again, same deal.
I cut and pasted the reply into my third party client, pressed send and it sent immediately.:Grimmace:

And despite all of the above I still get this;

Try this: Access the gmail server direct with your browser and go into settings. Change your password, then go back to Mail and change the password from your account settings. See if that will work. I know it sounds redundant, but I had to do the same thing one time to get gmail working again.

Just a note. When I first saw this pole there were just 2 choices so I picked #2. I would have voted #3 if that choice was there when I first voted!

I have no issues and never have except that one IMAP issue with Mavericks that was quickly fixed.

Thanks chscag, I sort of did that only I had to generate a new Two Step Verification Code (hence to be known as TSVC). I then read a thread from a gmail forum that suggested I check the Outgoing Mail Server settings via Edit SMTP Server List in the pull down menu and ensure that my user name was my full email address, enter my password in that window as well and pow! Gmail is now online. This is a very handy piece of info which has enabled me to fix an issue with my wifes personal gmail address as well. She has just been using one of her other gmail accounts to send mail from her primary account. Didn't tell me:Grimmace:

Sorry, someone edited that, I didn't know there could be three options. First time I've done one.

That is ok! Just wanted to let people know what happened.

On Poles you can have many options. Just a note for the future.

One more thing that i suppose I would have to attribute to gmail is that changing my ASPW for Mail on my Laptop initiated a request for a new ASPW on my iPhone. I get an email from Google saying; "This application password will allow you to access your Google account from a device or application that can only be configured with a username and password, rather than a username, password and a verification code". Which leads me to wonder why Mail does not accept a verification code from Google when it quite plainly can using two step verification on iCloud.

No sounds! Last night I spent an hr trying to work out what happened to the "swoosh" sound that accompanied sent mail. The only sound I had was the new mail sound and despite ensuring all sound setting were correct, turning them off, restarting and turning them on and restarting, repairing permissions etc nothing has worked so far.

People sleeping in room where that iMac is with 10.10.3 but will open Mail in the AM and see what happens.
