Just purchased a LaCie 250 FW. I need to back up my Powerbook. I understand that partitions are (without additional software) unchangeable so the question...What size and how many partitions are typical. I do a lot of graphic stuff as well as DTP. I also have a relatively large music and photo library. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I hope I'm not over thinking this.

If you are intending to format your HD in HFS+ (Apple Native) format, there is no need of multiple partitions.

There is generally little need to have more than one large partition unless you are being particularly clever (e.g. having an externally bootable copy of OS X or something).
