What is this weird icon (on the system menu bar) for?

I recently noticed this weird icon on the system menu bar which looks like number "8"
inclined about 45 degrees and bearing some colors.
When I click on the icon (either left or right button) it only shows a "quit" menu.
The icon disappears after two or three quits, but revives again shortly.
Does anyone know what this icon is for? And how to remove it from the menubar?

Thanks in advance...

A screen dump from the ActivityMonitor.app might help a lot.
In Activity monitor, don't forget to select " All Processes " in the top right hand corner.

Thanks McBie,

While looking into the list of processes carefully,
I tried to "Quit" from the icon many times to identify which process matches to the icon.
It seems that the process called "oNIA" has something to do with the icon.
I could not successfully kill the process, though. It comes up again and again.

By the way, what on earth "oNIA" is for?

Have you checked your login items? System Preferences -> Users & Groups, select your user and click on Login items at the right. See if there is an app in the list with the same logo.

Also, when you click on the item in your menu bar, is there an "about", preferences or anything that could reveal a name?

Checking my login items was the very first thing I did. There is no other menu but just "Quit", so I had no way to figure out name or anything else. Right click is just the same.

Is there any other information you can give us ?
Have you installed any drivers ... interfaces to external devices .... an appliance which requires a console app.
Right now, all I am looking at is an icon.

Thans again, McBie!

I am trying to grap some more information, but no luck so far.
External devices I connect/use regularly is one Samsung monitor,
iPad, Galaxy Note (an android phone), and HP Color LaserJet printer (via internal wifi LAN).

Maybe I will look into HP Printer stuff next.

It seems different, but I think I should take a closer look at it. Thanks!

I think the question is easy enough .... have you installed the software mentioned above or not.
That will direct the effort for finding a solution in a specific direction.

Cheers ... McBie
