I am a teacher in a public school. I want to have my students make stop motion movies this week. I plan/hope to use the program "istopmotion" but need cameras. My lab has G5 imacs which are great except it's pretty much impossible to film a stop motion movie with the built in camera.

Where can I get some cameras/webcams that work with the mac?

I was hoping to get some isights, but can't find them, and will settle on the QuickCam Vision Pro if I have to but am looking for other things.

THANKS from both myself and my students

When you do find external iSights, the sellers tend to ask a high price. What you also would want is a camera you can place in a fixed position, preferably on a tripod via the tripod screw mount. Not all cameras have that.

Some time back Apple added support for USB Video Class (UVC) standard cameras. I think that will work. See the following threads; Mac-forums, Apple, Tuaw.

If you have access to video cameras with firewire (Sony iLink) then you can use those with the appropriate cable.

You may also wish to consider the iMage Webcam and the iUSBCam driver, both from eCamm networks.

I've zeen?

I think that ivezeen lets you turn your isight into a webcam to record video. The trial is free, but the license is $14.95 (from Boinx I think it's called), which I think is perfectly reasonable.

I would say to get a logitech, except that they're big, bulky and expensive. I personally tested the logitech for mac and for over $100, you don't get the quality that you would with a built in. Is there anyway you could get your hands on a built-in isight or do you have to find something else?

I think there may be other webcams out there, I'd search for a UVC webcam. That means it's mac compatible.
This list http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/
Shows a bunch of them, apparently Creative has options too.
You could combine that with the ivezeen for example...

Hope that helps.
