If you run a quick google search you'll find it's possible to get a virus but the odds are very slim. The reason behind the lack of viruses for the Mac OS is because we are only a small fraction of the market share when it comes to computers. Why would any one write a virus for Mac and infect a few hundred if he/she's lucky when they could write it for windows and easily infect over thousands in a short period of time. Be careful any ways and as well, talking about p2p software is pretty heavily monitored here at M-F. I once made a post telling some one I will message him via iChat and discuss torrents and still got in trouble. Pretty lame but that's the rules so be careful when you talk about that stuff. If you have any questions or concerns about any thing just shoot me an instant message or PM. You can find all that info in my profile here and welcome to M-F!!!

You won't get a virus, but you can possibly get a trojan. OSX is the Mac OS, the X stands for 10.

The are no OS X viri, but using torrents from suspect sites can distribute a trojan. Last one was with bit torrent downloads of iWorks. Use safe internet practices, keep away from porn, pirate bay etc and you will be just fine.

I can't speak for Frostwire, but I am familiar with Limewire, and the problem goes far beyond viruses and other malware.

Limewire opens ports in your network connection that are normally shuttered. This means that you have to trust that Limewire is keeping its software secured. In at least one known incident, proof of concept exploits have been created.

Additionally, the Gnutella network, which is what Limewire acts as a client for, is HEAVILY policed by the RIAA and MPAA. Thousands of people have been sued or offered pre-suit settlements for copyright infringement.

In short, Limewire and other clients of its ilk are bad news.

You may think it's lame, but if we act as venue for people to discuss illegal torrents, we are essentially an accomplice to a criminal act.

The rules here at MF are NOT to harass a user or try to run the show. They are here to protect the forums from anything that can cause Mac Forums to be sued or shut down or both.
