I use a program called MacFamilyTree (MFT) to build my family tree and this program has the ability to generate a website and, via it's iPhone App, send your tree to your iPhone.
MFT worked perfectly under Leopard but the minute I upgraded to Snow Leopard (which I did as an upgrade rather than a fresh install), it would crash whenever I tried to publish the tree as a website or sync it to my iPhone and it would generate something like this in Console:
24/03/2010 22:05:12 [0x0-0x31031].com.synium.macfamilytree[28611]
MacStammbaum(28611,0xa0029500) malloc: *** mmap(size=214495232) failed

Now I know what you are thinking, this must be a problem with MFT. However I contacted the company behind MFT and they assured me that MFT was compatible with Snow Leopard and that I was the only one reporting this issue. The other week I decided to do a complete re-install of Snow Leopard and completely blitzed the drive and installed Snow Leopard as a fresh installation. After doing this the first program I installed was MFT and I immediately tried to sync it to my iPhone and publish my tree as a website. In both instances it now worked perfectly! I therefore thought that there must have been an issue with upgrading to SL rather than doing a fresh install and thought I had solved the problem.
I then went about re-installing all the programs I need and then a couple of days ago tried again to sync MFT to my iPhone and publish it as a website. Both times it failed generating the Console log above!
I can only conclude that one of the other programs I've installed must be conflicting in some way with MFT but is there a way I can determine or at least get a vague idea which program it might be?
MFT is essentially a SQLite database and when you sync or publish as a website it first compresses the database which it does by reducing the size of any images that have been added to the tree and, I assume, making a more efficient database designed primarily for viewing of data rather than the entry of. If I try to sync to my iPhone then MFT does say that it has completed compressing the database and says that it's sending it to my iPhone which it does over wi-fi but it never completes and never crashes the application.
Publishing it as a website does crash MFT when it gets about 2/3rds of the way through resizing all my images (around 700).
In all other ways MFT works perfectly and all data is viewable and you would never think anything was wrong.
Could one of my other programs be interfering in some way with MFT? These are the programs I have installed:
