Verizon Fios - modem needed?

For the last few years we gave food Plugged directly onto the time capsule sans modem…it has been working great.

Can we do the same if we change over to Linkdys Velop?

We probably ‘could’ keep the time capsule the way it is, keeping it plugged into fios directly and put TC into bright mode and then plug the Velop onto TC. Doing that though i would have concerns the TC would be a bottleneck and cause issues.

Currently have Fios feeding directly to Apple Time Capsule ...been this way for years. Cat5E from ONT to Time Capsule.

time Capsule is quiet old and looking at upgrading to Lynksys Velop. Really do NOT want to add on yet another box as a mode, Router has pretty solid security so not worried from that perspective. Can Velop act as router and modem. Is modem needed? If yes, what is recommended?
primary use cases - streaming video, file management/server.
