What are the laws/legal guidelines of using popular culture references (say mentioning "Blame by Calvin Harris" or Pokémon) casually in an IOS application to engage users/insert more humor into the app? Is there not a problem as long as you give credit to the original author?

Thank you in advance

Interesting question..I imagine that as long as you are not tainting, diluting or building your reputation on then brand/rep of others you're fine..

For example, it is common for people to tell others "Google that" as opposed to say "search for that on the Internet". If you did have a need/use of this within an App per say and you weren't somehow using it to divert Google links to yourself or something, it's likely all fine...

Attributing ownership is definitely key..

I'm no lawyer however, so just applying common sense here..
