Using Mark Up - zooming on image

I'm trying to use the mark up feature when emailing a PDF document. I've used this many times before and it's awesome, but the image is usually a little too small for my liking. The file I'm trying to mark up this time is ridiculously tiny making mark up impossible as you can see in the attached screen shot. Is there any way to zoom in on the file to be marked up?

Also... is there anyway to use the mark up tool without having to go into email?

The toolbar looks like it is from Preview. Can you open the original PDF in Preview and edit it from there? The tools are in Tools/Annotate. Then save the PDF with a new name and attach it to the email. You can zoom in Preview as much as you need to have the tools work.
