I just connected my late-2012 Mac Mini running Yosemite to a 250GB Crucial BX100 SSD using the StarTech USB 3.0 to SATA converter (http://www.startech.com/HDD/Adapters/USB-3-SATA-adapter-cable-with-UASP~USB3S2SA T3CB). According to Blackmagic, my write/read speeds are only 22/28 MB/s. What am I doing wrong???

Why would you think that connecting a SSD via an external bus USB 3 to SATA would give you the same speeds as the internal bus of your Mini? Your SSD will be limited to the read write speed of USB 3 and probably slower because of the SATA convertor.
