Merry Christams all,

I'm upgrading the 500gb HDD in my 2012 MBP 13 to a 240gb SSD (Not chosen a brand yet, so suggestions also welcome).
Is cloning my current drive a straight forward task? A friend of mine has done the same and said he'd encountered problems and had to apply a patch and enable TRIM? Will this not just clone straight out of the box?

Cheers in advance.

No you need to make the ssd into a spare usb external hdd first then allow utility disk set the parameters onto the ssd so the drive can be recognised. that way you can set carbon copy cloning. Remember do not try to format as this shortens the lifespan of the ssd. As for a brand best do a google search for your particular MBP. Other alternative is to take the 500gb drive out put the ssd in and install via the installation disk and have a fresh os and transfer via external 500gb usb.
