I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and want to go to Lion 10.7 I have checked and have enough memory and such to do this but have a couple questions

1. Back up. I know they always suggest you back up your info just in case. I only have a few documents for work..they can easily be made up again..and my bookmarks which I can cop and just go back and revisit the sites and that's done. Really nothing of any great importance that can't be replaced. What other types of items should I be concerned about backing up in case they're lost?

2. Have never upgraded before..Is there a place that gives instructions on how to do this such as what steps to take and in what order?

Any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks

- Word processing docs.
- Spreadsheet docs
- Power Point docs
- Music
- Photos
- Videos
- Downloaded Movies
- Maybe installers of apps
- docs from iLife or iWork apps

Just a bunch of ideas. I realize that you may not have any or all of them.

It's very easy…you just double click on the installer file…and follow the instructions. You can also do an internet search (if necessary). Lots & lots of articles.

You didn't ask what could be the most important question. Where to get Lion?;)

You might want to ensure you have/know all your passwords stored in Utilities > Keychain.
Otherwise doing a clean install is a good way to go.
When you say you have enough "memory" I assume you mean RAM. The space on your Hard drive is called Storage, people often get the two mixed up. You should have 4Gb of RAM.
Iclevs post has a link which is a little complex (no offense iclev) it lists how to make a bootable thumb drive but you dont really need to do that. This site has (I think) a simpler method for clean install using a DVD but either method will work.

None taken Ron. I didn't have enough information to get too specific. The install DVD is the way to go expectedly if your hesitant with what you are doing.

Since I don't have a lot if really anything to back up...passwords are all written down then I guess I should buy the upgrade and go. Do they send me a disk or do I just run it? Never upgraded before. It sounds complicated thats why I am glad I really don't have anything to back up thats important.

Like I said do they provide a disk or do I just download the upgrade?

Thanks

That makes things easier:)

You purchase it online. No disk…download only. Apple then sends you an email with some sort of confirmation code…which you use to download the Lion installer. All the instructions are in the email.:)

Don't be thrown by the fact that some Apple apps in Lion (such as Pages, for example) will no longer have a "Save As" button -- it was replaced in 10.7 by autosaving (and versions, which was actually a much better idea), but since developers opted not to adopt that universally, Apple "kind of" put it back in 10.8 and later.
