I'm having problems with Unix Executable files being saved as text files. They keep the same size and everything but can only be opened by text editor. I've tried opening with terminal and it won't give me the option.

Any ideas as to what's wrong? I am using a 27" quad core iMac.

Thanks in advance!

Executables being saved as text files? Could you provide an example of what you're doing?

Trying to replace an existing unix file for a program with a new unix file. But every time I save the new file it gets saved as a text file. I've even had a friend that runs the file send over the file and it still gets saved that way.

Would just changing the extension help? I'm completely clueless when it comes to software.

Why are you replacing unix files? You should really avoid editing files outside of your home directory (I'm guessing you're editing something in /usr but I could be wrong). What is the extension on the file?

It's a unix file to some music editing software. I need to replace it in order to run the full version.
